Skills and Competencies

  • 8-10+ years of relevant credit analysis experience, with strong technical skills in accounting, financial statement analysis, cash flow analysis, capital structure, debt documentation, and relative positioning
  • Strong understanding of utility regulation, regulated business models, and sector-specific credit drivers; investor-owned utility or power sector experience preferred
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to distill complex issues into clear, persuasive credit views
  • Sound judgment, intellectual curiosity, ownership mindset, and the ability to work independently while contributing to an inclusive, collaborative team environment
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong professional relationships, including with senior management teams, and represent Moody's credibly with external audiences
  • Proven ability to manage multiple priorities, meet tight deadlines, and deliver high-quality work in a dynamic environment
  • Demonstrated proficiency in artificial intelligence concepts, with hands-on experience using AI tools to streamline workflows and enhance operational efficiency. Proven ability to implement AI-powered solutions to solve business challenges. Demonstrates a growing awareness of AI risk management and a commitment to responsible and ethical AI use
  • Commitment to continuous learning, coaching, and developing others with cultural awareness and authenticity

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Economics, Finance, or a related field required
  • Master's degree, CFA, or similar professional designation preferred

Responsibilities

Lead rigorous, high-impact credit analysis for North American investor-owned utilities and select power issuers within a dynamic, sector-leading team.

  • Lead credit analysis for a portfolio of investor-owned electric and gas utilities and select power issuers, delivering timely, rigorous rating recommendations and surveillance
  • Assess key credit drivers, including regulatory frameworks, rate-setting practices, cost recovery, liquidity, capital structure, business strategy, energy policy, and ESG considerations
  • Present clear, well-supported views to rating committees and communicate complex analytical issues succinctly in writing and discussion
  • Build trusted relationships with company management teams and engage effectively with investors, intermediaries, and the media as a credible sector voice
  • Publish insightful, forward-looking research on issuers, sector developments, and cross-sector credit themes
  • Represent the team through conferences, investor outreach, and other external speaking opportunities
  • Collaborate across the organization, mentor junior analysts, and help develop strong credit judgment across the team
  • Model the highest standards of analytical integrity, transparency, fairness, and professionalism

About the Team

The Project and Infrastructure Finance Group rates debt issued by public and private infrastructure entities, project finance issuers, and electric, gas, and water utilities. Within the group, the North American Regulated Utilities and Power team focuses on investor-owned utilities, regulated utility holding companies, and select power issuers. Joining the team offers the opportunity to shape high-impact credit analysis, engage with senior market participants, publish thought leadership on a rapidly evolving sector, and help advance responsible use of AI to strengthen analytical workflows.


For US-based roles only: the anticipated hiring base salary range for this position is $200,000.00-$290,000.00, depending on factors such as experience, education, level, skills, and location. This range is based on a full-time position. In addition to base salary, this role is eligible for incentive compensation. Moody's also offers a competitive benefits package, including not but limited to medical, dental, vision, parental leave, paid time off, a 401(k) plan with employee and company contribution opportunities, life, disability, and accident insurance, a discounted employee stock purchase plan, and tuition reimbursement.
