JOB SUMMARY
This position provides logistical support to all Southern Company system wide business units. The incumbent is
required to make timely and critical business decisions regarding the best mode of transportation of materials
and equipment in routine situations, during planned and forced outages & emergency storm restoration efforts.
The job also requires extensive knowledge of carriers, Department of Transportation (D.O.T.) rules & regulations
and utility material and equipment. The successful candidate will be required to be on call and work in shifts to
support outages & storm restoration efforts.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:
Education
• High School diploma or equivalent, Bachelor’s degree in Business or Supply Chain is preferred.
Experience
• Prior experience in transportation services field
• Experience in all aspects of transportation including LTL, Truck Load, Parcel, Hotshot, Dedicated & Air.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office computer products.
Knowledge and Skills
• Extensive knowledge of logistics to efficiently and effectively route materials and equipment in routine &
emergency situations.
• Knowledge of carriers, NMFC Classifications, DOT regulations, Class 1 – 9 Hazmat transport
qualifications as it relates to CFR 49 Standards
• Knowledge of air freight, truck, hotshot, OS/OW regulations as it relates to CFR 49 Standards
• Knowledge of International freight shipment requirements and INCO TERMS
• Knowledge pricing negotiation and contractual agreements with carriers to maximize freight savings.
• Knowledge of Power Delivery and Power Generation materials & equipment.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Assist internal customers with transportation needs.
• Resolve logistical issues & provide logistics solutions.
• Build strong relationships with carriers, suppliers & internal customers.
• Maintain knowledge of DOT rules & regulations as it relates CFR 49 Standards
• Ensure timely deliveries of materials & equipment in both routine and emergency situations.
• Review freight invoices to insure accuracy.
• Negotiate freight contracts.
