Job Description
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Supervises the day-to-day operations of the Horn Library Information Desk.
- Independently manages all aspects of student employment in the library, including recruiting, hiring, scheduling, training, payroll, and evaluation, while providing ongoing support and direction.
- Coordinates and conducts training for Student Information Assistants in circulation/reserves/holds procedures, library policies, and training in library resources. Delivers both online and in-person training modules.
- Ensures student employees deliver courteous, professional assistance to patrons by answering basic directional and information questions and guiding them to appropriate support resources, including the IT Service Desk.
- Directs and oversees student employees in utilizing the Library Services Platform (LSP) for all circulation operations, including patron registration, check-in/check-out, renewals, fine collection, and access to library materials.
- Monitors shelving accuracy and directs student employees in performing regular stacks and inventory maintenance.
- Ensures accurate maintenance of library records, including inventory, item data, usage statistics, and departmental procedures.
- Documents and evaluates student employee performance while ensuring open and effective communication.
- Uses AI-enabled and other technology tools appropriately to improve workflows, streamline routine tasks, and support data-informed decision making
- Proactively explores and integrates cloud-based organizational tools to manage student employees (e.g., LibStaffer, Canvas).
- Provides basic reference assistance with research in all formats and media to students, faculty, alumni, local businesspeople, and residents using library resources. Refers to research librarians as necessary.
- Communicates and enforces library policies and procedures to students, faculty, staff, and the public.
- Troubleshoots and performs maintenance and minor repairs of A/V equipment and computer hardware. Coordinates complex repairs with the appropriate person within ITSD, taking ownership until resolution, and communicates as needed with members of the Library.
- Checks in/out and renews library materials, registers patrons, and collects fines using automated system.
- Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

Bachelor’s Degree required
At least 1-3 years of related experience.
Ability to file, shelve, and retrieve library materials from 3 inches to over 6 feet off the floor
Excellent computer proficiency
Excellent customer service skills
Ability to work as a member of a team.
Must understand various technology platforms with an interest in learning new ones and staying up to date regarding various technology needs.
Ability to envision and propose new methods to perform tasks that support ET&A; take thoughtful risks; and accept new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.
Ability to anticipate and embrace change; demonstrate willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.
Demonstrated curiosity about emerging technologies, including AI tools, and the ability to use them thoughtfully, effectively, and responsibly to support daily work and improve processes.
HOW AND WHERE YOU WILL WORK
Requires work onsite 5 days a week (Tuesday through Saturday) with some flexibility as the schedule allows; the on-campus requirement is subject to modification based on organizational need.
Light lifting required (50 pounds and under).
ADDITIONAL SKILLS YOU MAY HAVE
- Master's Degree Library and Information Studies, Information Technology, or a closely related field is preferred

This is a non-exempt position with the following pay range: $30.96/hour - $34.40/hour; the role is also eligible for bonuses based on performance and budget.
