Job Summary
The Roberts Laboratory in the Kresge Hearing Research Institute at the University of Michigan is seeking a Postdoctoral Research Fellow to investigate the neural circuit mechanisms underlying neuromodulation in the auditory midbrain. The Roberts Lab uses cutting-edge in vivo and in vitro electrophysiology, optogenetics, molecular genetics, and anatomical approaches to identify the fundamental neural circuit mechanisms that support hearing in health and disease. The successful candidate will work independently and as part of a team on NIH-funded projects and will have the opportunity to develop new projects related to hearing health. Experience with in vitro electrophysiology, neuroanatomical approaches, and viral transduction is desired.

The lab is part of the Kresge Hearing Research Institute, the Hearing, Balance, and Chemical Senses Training Program, and the Michigan Neuroscience Institute, which together provide a highly interactive training environment with excellent opportunities for collaboration and professional development.
Required Qualifications*
- PhD in Neuroscience, Physiology, or related discipline
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work with others in a collaborative environment
- Experience with in vitro electrophysiology
- Experience with statistical analysis of electrophysiology data
Desired Qualifications*
- Ability to work independently to oversee and run complex research projects
- Experience performing intracranial virus injections in rodents
- Experience with neuropharmacology
Modes of Work
Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.
Background Screening
Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings. Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
