Pay Range: $50-70 per hour
Role Overview
We are seeking a Network Engineer to help design, deploy, and maintain the wired and wireless network infrastructure. This role involves supporting the day-to-day operation of network services across enterprise systems and foundational IT infrastructure at multiple sites. The position is suited for an engineer with a solid foundation in routing, switching, and wireless networking who is looking to grow into broader ownership of network design and site-level infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot wired and wireless networks and services across local and remote sites.
- Assist in the design, deployment, and maintenance of network infrastructure at existing and future locations, under the direction of senior engineering staff.
- Perform routine configuration, patching, and maintenance of routers, switches, wireless access points, and related hardware.
- Provide first- and second-level support for network-related help desk escalations, troubleshooting issues through to resolution or escalating complex problems appropriately.
- Apply security patches, upgrades, and configuration changes in accordance with change management policies.
- Support physical infrastructure work, including structured cabling, rack builds, and equipment installation at the site.
- Collaborate with the Information Security team on securing network components, infrastructure, and connected devices.
- Maintain clear, accurate documentation of network configurations, changes, and procedures.
- Perform ongoing system and network maintenance in a primarily on-site role (approximately 80–90% on-site).
- 4+ years of professional networking experience, with skills in installing, configuring, and maintaining network equipment (e.g., Juniper switches/routers).
- Strong working experience with Jira/Atlassian.
- Working knowledge of core networking services and protocols (DNS, DHCP, VLANs, OSPF/BGP fundamentals) and exposure to next-generation firewalls.
- Hands-on experience with wireless networking, including basic configuration, access point placement, and troubleshooting.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and a track record of diagnosing and resolving network and system issues.
- Familiarity with UNIX/Linux system administration fundamentals and change management practices.
- Comfort with physical networking work: cabling, connectors, transceivers, and use of standard network monitoring tools.
- Strong communication and documentation skills, with the ability to work across technical and non-technical teams and manage multiple priorities.
- Exposure to research or High Performance Computing (HPC) environments.
- Experience with automation/Infrastructure-as-Code.
- Familiarity with Palo Alto Networks.
- Knowledge of Infiniband networking.
