POSITION OVERVIEW

The mission of the Music Clubhouse is to give youth the opportunity to build self-confidence and interpersonal skills by learning how to play, perform, compose, and record music.  The primary goal of the program is to use music as a vehicle for developing academic skills, social skills, and to ultimately build self-confidence and self-esteem. The clubhouse is one of a variety of programs that BGCB provides to underserved youth in the community.

The Music Program Manager will be leading a ground-breaking program by introducing only electronic instruments to youth. 
The individual in this role is both an effective leader of the Music Clubhouse program and a key member of the BGCB staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Commitment to Excellence in Curriculum and Program Development/Delivery, Behavior Management and Safety

  • Together with Director of Operations and Executive Director, create/revise program curriculum with clearly-defined activities and realistic, measurable outcomes.
  • Lead weekly schedule of music instructional activities with small groups of youth, many with no previous musical experience.
  • Create and implement regular showcase opportunities for Music Clubhouse youth and coach youth to perform with confidence.
  • Identify core group of teens to serve as Music Clubhouse "All Stars" (Members will receive advanced music and leadership training and serve as mentors to younger youth and peers). 
  • Secure, maintain and monitor budget, materials, equipment and other resources belonging to the program area(s).  Maintain a safe and clean program area(s).   
  • Supervise and discipline of members participating in programs and services within the program area as well as throughout the clubhouse as deemed appropriate. 
  • Program & supervise daily drop-in times.

Outreach/Engagement, Collaboration and Supervision/Training

  • Conduct outreach and recruitment within our programs and broader community throughout the year as necessary.
  • Meet with participant parents and provide them with opportunities to learn more about the program. 
  • Coordinate volunteers and consultants who can offer related instruction, support and guidance to members.
  • Participate in individual and group supervision sessions; participate in professional development opportunities as appropriate.  
  • With other youth development staff, integrate Music Clubhouse program and youth in annual signature events. 
  • Orient, train and supervise department staff (including work-study students, junior staff, and volunteers). Provide annual performance evaluations for applicable staff in a timely manner. 

Meetings, Audits, and Program Evaluations

  • Assessing our impact is critical to our work.  All staff is expected to participate in various evaluation efforts throughout each program year, including the annual member survey.
  • With the Director of Operations and Executive Director, develop and implement Member evaluation to determine Member skills development and satisfaction with program. 
  • Attendance and active participation in organization-wide meetings, programs and events. 
  • Assist the organization (as needed) in the audio/visual needs for organization programs, initiatives and/or events. 
  • Perform other assignments as designated by Senior Management in order to facilitate the most effective service to members, program participants, and the community. 
  • Attendance and participation in Music & Youth Initiative programs, special events, professional development and reporting.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Responsible for evening and weekend building coverage as scheduled. 
  • Travel between sites and to activities as needed. 
    • Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    QUALIFICATIONS 

    Required

    • BA degree required. 
    • 3-5 years of developing and implementing programs for teenagers
    • Involvement with Youth Development programming in an urban setting 
    • Flexible and creative self-starter - demonstrated ability to be entrepreneurial and work through obstacles.
    • “Hands-On” mentality - candidate should be willing to work directly with kids, teachers and program partners.
    • Team oriented - ability to cultivate relationships and work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
    • An advanced and proven understanding of music performance theory and pedagogy and previous experience teaching music 
    • The ability to play at least one instrument at an advanced level and demonstrated ability to teach entry-level music (voice, keyboard, drums, guitar, etc.) to students is a must.
    • General knowledge of the music business/industry, including digital/social media.  Including an advanced and proven understanding of music production and recording (including ProTools software and Digidesign hardware) and pedagogy.   
         

       Preferred

      • Master’s degree 
      • Previous supervisory experience 
      • Project management experience 
      • Multi-lingual candidates are encouraged to apply
