Summary:

The main function of a Data Center Environmental Permitting Program Manager is to manage environmental due diligence, environmental permitting acquisition and approvals, and support compliance activities during site acquisition, design, and construction. This role offers the opportunity to support high-impact infrastructure projects that directly enable cloud growth and datacenter delivery. The contractor will be involved in both strategy development and execution for environmental permits, helping remove barriers to construction and supporting delivery of critical infrastructure.


The position provides broad exposure to complex environmental issues across site acquisition, design, construction, compliance planning, and operational turnover. Candidates will work with a diverse network of stakeholders, including legal, design, construction, operations, sustainability, community development, regulatory agencies, and consultant teams. This is a strong opportunity for a candidate who enjoys solving complex permitting challenges, managing environmental risk, influencing cross-functional delivery, and contributing to continuous improvement in environmental program execution.


Typical Day

A typical day will involve coordinating environmental permitting and due diligence activities across multiple internal and external workstreams. The contractor will review environmental assessments, permit applications, consultant deliverables, regulatory requirements, and project timelines to identify risks, gaps, and mitigation needs. The role requires frequent collaboration with stakeholders, including legal, land development, energy, design, construction, operations, community development, sustainability, EHS, and permitting teams. The contractor will also coordinate with regulatory agencies, outside consultants, contractors, and other external stakeholders to support timely environmental approvals and construction readiness.


Daily responsibilities may include managing environmental risk evaluations, tracking permit approval status, reviewing due diligence findings, supporting agency or stakeholder engagement, resolving permitting issues, reporting project status, and contributing to improvements in Environmental Excellence program for datacenter delivery and operations.

  • Management of environmental risk evaluations, permitting, approvals, and consent activities for existing and new datacenter and associated infrastructure development for sites.
  • Management of environmental due diligence and risk assessment during site acquisition, including Environmental Site Assessments, soil and groundwater investigations, Air Quality and Permitting reviews, regulatory and permitting evaluations, and biological, ecological, and cultural resource evaluations and surveys.
  • Management of environmental consultants for the delivery of environmental approvals and consents, due diligence assessments, risk evaluations, and biological, ecological and cultural resources evaluations, surveys and reports.
  • Development of remediation strategies, approvals and oversight of completion of any remedial actions required prior to site pre-positioning and/or construction
  • Identification of environmental permitting requirements and development of delivery strategies, including environmental mitigation, in coordination with design, construction. EHS, operations, and permitting teams to meet required timelines.
  • Support of regulatory agency, stakeholder and community engagement activities and negotiations for new builds and existing facilities.
  • Support of development of environmental risk and permitting mitigations to enable datacenter construction and operations within development timelines.
  • Management of environmental compliance planning and execution for pre-positioning, construction activities and operational turnover.
  • Communication of environmental requirements and environmental expertise to diverse internal stakeholders, including legal, land development, energy, design, construction, operations, community development, and sustainability teams.

Ideal Background this Role

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in environmental permitting, environmental compliance, environmental due diligence, and project management for large-scale development or mission-critical infrastructure projects. The candidate should be comfortable working in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment and able to drive outcomes across multiple internal teams, consultants, and regulatory stakeholders.

Preferred experience includes environmental permitting and approvals in the Americas, including environmental impact assessments, permit acquisition, cultural and ecological surveys, environmental site assessments, remediation planning, and risk assessments for greenfield and brownfield sites.


The candidate should have working knowledge of environmental permitting programs and requirements, including air quality, threatened and endangered species, USACE/Section 404 permitting, SPCC, RCRA, and related regulatory programs. Experience with remedial investigations, remediation strategies, site conceptual models, and site management plans is also preferred.


Basic qualifications include a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Engineering, Civil Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Environmental Science, or an equivalent field, along with strong written and verbal communication skills and the ability to build positive working relationships with internal and external teams.

• Advanced knowledge of environmental permitting programs, remedial investigations, remediation strategies and execution, site conceptual models, and site management plans.


Education/Experience:
