The Department of Theatre at Bridgewater State University is committed to the artistic empowerment and educational invigoration of our students. Essential Duties

The Department of Theater invites applications for a one-year full-time temporary faculty position starting in September 2026.

  • The faculty member teaches upper level & lower level courses, including CORE Curriculum courses, for our University's diverse student population using a variety of appropriate teaching methods; meets all scheduled classes prepared to instruct; prepares teaching syllabi for courses of study; prepares materials to adequately evaluate student progress; reports midterm and final grades when appropriate; maintains accurate and adequate records; establishes regular office hours for student consultation.
  • Demonstrate sensitivity to and understanding of students from diverse backgrounds with a wide range of abilities.
  • Utilizes an equity- minded framework to prepare lesson plans which incorporate varied instructional techniques, multi-media, integration strategies designed to meet the educational, culturally relevant, and emotional needs of our students.
  • Develops and maintains a classroom environment conducive to effective learning. Encourages student success to all students regardless of race.
  • Participates and provides opportunities for all students in community service initiatives or projects that support a diverse and inclusive pedagogy, including Honors Theses and Advanced Individual Projects.
  • Collaborate with all colleagues to ensure proper alignment of related courses.
  • Participate in advising students on academic curricula; serving on faculty committees; participating in faculty meetings; participating in the development of departmental curricula; and adhering to all institutional policies.
  • The candidate may also perform other related duties as assigned and/or required, with potential opportunities to direct departmental theatre productions.


Required Qualifications

  • Experience working with diverse student populations from a wide range of age, ethnicity, national origin, and ability; engage in and develop innovative teaching strategies; effectively assess student learning outcomes.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to lifelong learning and professional development; and provide service to our students, the college, and our community at large.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching and advising that enhances an environment of equity, diversity and inclusion.
  • Master's Degree in related field.
  • College-level teaching experience.
  • Related professional theatre experience.
  • Experience in theatre for young audiences.
  • Experience teaching undergraduate performance.
  • Ability to use technology effectively in teaching and learning designed to meet the educational, culturally relevant, and emotional needs of our students.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A master of fine arts or doctoral degree, or one near completion, from a regionally accredited program in a related field is preferred.
  • History of continued artistic scholarship and/or research.
  • History of directing undergraduate theatre productions and musicals.
