WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW (Job Overview):
The Principal, IT Business Systems will be responsible for designing and delivering scalable, secure, and high-performing data and analytics solutions that enable informed decision-making across Finance and enterprise functions. This role blends data architecture, advanced analytics, and reporting with cross-functional support for all technology solutions managed by the Finance Business Applications team.
This individual serves as a strategic partner and subject matter expert, translating business needs into technical solutions while ensuring consistent data definitions, security, governance and standards, optimized performance, and alignment across systems, tools, and stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Business Requirements Translation and Analytics
- Translate business and Finance requirements into technical solutions, data models, semantic layers, and reporting solutions.
- Serve as SME for data interpretation, ensuring consistent understanding of metrics across the organization.
- Present insights and recommendations and facilitate alignment when stakeholders have differing interpretations of data meaning
- Validate that technical implementations accurately represent original business intent
- Collaborate with Finance, HR, IT, and other business partners.
Data Architecture & Semantic Modeling
- Design enterprise Power BI semantic layer architecture, including data models, relationships, and calculation frameworks.
- Define standardized business logic, measures, and time intelligence patterns.
- Ensure alignment of calculations and metrics across multiple data sources and domains.
- Partner with data warehouse teams to support “analytics-ready” data structures.
Performance, Security & Integration
- Design scalable solutions supporting multi-source data integration.
- Implement row-level security and data access controls across user groups.
- Optimize performance through aggregation strategies, DAX tuning, and query optimization.
- Ensure solutions meet enterprise standards for scalability, reliability, and performance.
Cross-Functional Technology Support (Finance Business Applications)
- Provide data and analytics support across all Finance-owned technology solutions (e.g., ERP, planning tools, workforce systems, Bi solutions).
- Partner with product owners and system leads to ensure reporting, data structures, and integrations support business needs.
- Identify opportunities to enhance tools, eliminate redundancies, and improve end-to-end data flows.
- Serve as a point of contact for Finance Business Applications solutions.
Governance, Standards & Continuous Improvement
- Apply enterprise Power BI standards
- Establish architectural patterns within enterprise framework
- Document architectural decisions, trade-offs, and rationale
- Validate implementations against architectural standards through design reviews
- Document data definitions, architecture decisions, and solution designs.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required
- 7+ years of experience in data analytics, BI, or data architecture
Technical Skills
Technical Expertise
- 7+ years Power BI experience including semantic model design, DAX development, and performance optimization
- 5+ years of data architecture experience with dimensional modeling (star/snowflake schemas)
- Expert-level understanding of Power BI semantic models, relationships, calculation groups, aggregations, etc.
- Advanced DAX expertise including complex calculations, time intelligence, and performance optimization
- Strong SQL and data modeling (star/snowflake schemas), including writing optimized queries and developing scalable views for poofs of concepts
- Enterprise data warehouse experience (Redshift/AWS or similar)
- Row-level security design and implementation across complex data models
- Knowledge of ETL/ELT processes and multi-source integrations and their impact to downstream reporting
- Experience with enterprise data warehouses (e.g., AWS Redshift)
- Familiarity with Excel, Python, or other analytics tools

PAY INFORMATION: The annual salary range for this position is $120,000 - $140,000. We do not offer an annual bonus for this role. Note that American Red Cross salaries are aligned to the specific geographic location in which the work is primarily performed. Other factors that may be used to determine your actual salary may include your specific skills, how many years of experience you have and comparison to other employees already in this role. **We will review specific salary information at the time of phone screening based upon your location & experience.**
