BCoSM - Health Professions CoordinatorDepartment Summary
The Bartlett College of Science and Mathematics (BCoSM) champions the academic and life endeavors of all students, promotes our community of teacher-scholars, and works to improve our region and world. Faculty, staff, and students collaborate to produce the finest possible educational experiences in the sciences and mathematics through innovative and effective course design and undergraduate and graduate student research. Our work is greatly enriched by collaborations extending beyond Bridgewater State University through internships, impactful community and global service, and student-focused industry partnerships. We employ diverse strategies to inspire our graduates to become confident, informed, and discerning citizens and decision-makers capable of fully understanding and eagerly investigating the world around them.Position Summary
The Health Professions Coordinator works with, advises, and assists students seeking admission to health professions graduate programs. They Chair the Health Professions Advising Committee to submit aggregate letters of recommendation and engage in other activities that create a rich academic environment for students interested in health professions. This is a part-time, non-benefitted, temporary position.Position Type
TemporaryEssential Duties
1. Serve as an advisor for students interested in enrolling in health professions graduate programs and point students toward appropriate prerequisite courses and other requirements needed for such programs.2. Develop a flexible schedule including in person and remote meetings, within reason, to meet with advisees to offer ongoing support, guidance, and encouragement.3. Identify experiential opportunities within the health professions and facilitate their accessibility for pre-health students.4. Work with advisees to complete and submit application materials.5. Develop a working knowledge of the variety of career options within the health professions.6. Serve as a liaison to institutions with MOUs for health professions academic pathways7. Plan and support visits from health professions graduate programs.8. Chair the Health Professions Advising Committee (HPAC), which consists of faculty members in various Departments throughout the BCoSM.9. Update and revise, as necessary, the current Health Careers for BSU Students website: https://guides.bridgew.edu/campus/pre-health/#_ga=2.123545227.102486023.1779315873-1391796188.1739220710 and social media accounts.10. Advising takes place year-round with the busiest times during the fall and spring semesters.11. One year position, renewable.Required Qualifications
1. Master's Degree in health related field, counseling/guidance, and/or student personnel.2. 1-3 years of related experience, especially in the areas of academic advising, college teaching, and/or delivery of academic support services.3. Excellent written, oral communication and interpersonal skills.4. An understanding of technology in the delivery of advising services.5. Experience using social media and website design to effectively communicate with diverse student populations.6. Understanding of higher education principles, practices, and procedures.7. Demonstrated experience with sensitivity to human concerns, flexibility, patience, professional integrity and a concern for student needs in a demanding academic context.Preferred Qualifications
1. Knowledge of Degree Works (degree audit and educational planning tool).2. Knowledge of student information systems, such as Banner and Navigate.Work Environment
