The Financial Accounting department at CareFirst manages day to day functions of the accounting cycle including account reconciliations, journal entries, account research and analysis, and the month end account close process.
Principal Accountabilities:
CareFirst runs a year-round internship program. The ideal candidate is someone who can work throughout the year up to 15-20 hours in the Spring/Fall and up to 40 hours in the summer. The start date for the internship will be in October 2026.
- Assist with monthly journal entry preparation by specified deadlines.
- Assist with monthly balance sheet reconciliations by specified deadlines.
- Assist with any other day-to-day tasks as assigned.
This internship will provide an opportunity to work in a professional environment and participate in a variety of functions to obtain firsthand experience relative to most organizations.
Qualifications Required:
This position requires an individual working towards a bachelors or masters degree in an accredited college or university. We are looking for students seeking degrees in Accounting or Finance, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or above.
Required Abilities/Skills:
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Must be reliable, hardworking and have a strong work ethic.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to positively interface with and establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal staff and external clients.
- Attention to detail and excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to multi-task and reprioritize work, as necessary.
- An independent means of transportation. Local travel may be necessary.
- Must have strong skills with Microsoft Excel (Intermediate/Advanced Level).
Salary Range: $18,720 - $26,000

The hire range posted is an annual rate. All intern positions will be paid hourly.
