About the position:
The Assistant Director, Registered Nurse will work closely with the Clinic Director to provide quality, respectful care to all patients and provide direct supervision to Medical Assistants. This position supports clinical operations to deliver safe, high-quality patient care and to ensure a seamless, efficient clinic experience for both patients and staff. Key areas of focus include clinical and operational excellence, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, and patient satisfaction. The Assistant Director, Registered Nurse will function as the clinic director in his/her absence. In addition, this position will assist the clinic director throughout clinic sessions, with follow-up and with special projects and other activities.

Key Outcomes
In the first 90 days, the Assistant Director, Registered Nurse will:

  • Learn and live the Americares values.
  • Complete all required new hire onboarding trainings, including Athena learning modules
  • Develop a deep understanding of the free clinic model and patient population
    Learn the operational flow of the clinic, understanding each role and associated responsibilities
  • Partner with Clinic Director to understand how to independently manage clinic to provider coverage during absences
  • Build relationships with staff and volunteer providers and learn individual patient treatment styles and how to schedule patients for each provider
  • Understand interpretation needs and successfully demonstrate interpretation skills
  • Be familiar with available resources, medications, and specialty care available to patient population

In the first 6 months, the Assistant Director, Registered Nurse will:

  • Master Athena EHR
  • Be able to serve as clinic director in director’s absence for weeklong period
  • Demonstrate flexibility within the clinical environment
  • Be familiar with clinic policies and procedures to ensure consistent patient care

In the first year, the Assistant Director, Registered Nurse will:

  • Master all aspects of clinic technology
  • Demonstrate deep understanding of clinic policies and procedures
  • Work in conjunction with the staff to provide a high level of quality and safe care
  • Function independently in the role of Assistant Director

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Acknowledge that AFC maintains a policy and procedure manual at all locations; and follow and enforce the policies and procedures set forth in the manual
  • Other duties and responsibilities as assigned

Degrees and/or experience required for the role:

  • State of Connecticut Registered Nurse licensure, or the ability to obtain

These competencies are required for the role:

  • Professional fluency in Spanish and/or Portuguese (competency assessment required)
  • Proficiency in Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Demonstrated ability to efficiently and effectively manage clinical operations and staff
  • Ability to supervise, orient, and evaluate the clinical competency of staff and volunteers
  • Demonstrated computer skills and use of electronic health records (EHR)
  • Ability to manage competing priorities simultaneously and able to adapt to changing needs

US work authorization required

These competencies are preferred, but are not required:

  • Experience with Athena EHR
  • Previous managerial experience or experience overseeing operations in a clinic setting
