SUMMARY
Provides high level accounting support to assigned specialty and business centers. Prepare non-repetitive, complex, or specialized adjustments to the general ledger. Prepares more complex account reconciliations and is actively involved with preparation of certain line-item financial statement schedules. Will provide functional advice or training to lower level or less experienced accountants. Handles most issues independently.
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Provides advanced accounting support to assigned specialty and business centers. Develop an understanding of the spending budgets of the supported areas. Reviews and analyzes monthly data and verifies for accuracy and completeness. May involve financial reporting training to these supported areas.
· Works closely with specialty and business centers to ensure month end and year end accrual reporting is accurate and complete. Investigate and resolve discrepancies in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
· Analyzes specific financial statement line items to summarize and interpret current and projected trends. Prepares explanations on items of significance and exercises judgment to determine what those items are. Conducts pertinent investigation of the accounts involved.
· Prepares and presents month end variance analysis schedules. Collects, summarizes, reviews, and verifies data. Clearly and concisely present these schedules to senior management.
· Responds to requests for information and develops nonstandard reports and statements as needed for senior management. Performs statistical analyses to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes. Initiates corrective action when needed.
· Prepares difficult journal entries and reconciles complex ledger accounts. Prepares allocations of various expense and revenue items.
· Prepares more complex account reconciliations. Reviews, investigates, and corrects errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
· Coordinates and reconciles the semi-annual physical inventory counts.
· Ability to use the organization’s financial management systems to prepare, run and retrieve reports for analytical purposes.
· Assists in the external audit. Includes preparing lead audit schedules and serving as a resource to the auditors on general ledger or account reconciliation questions.
· Familiarity with lease and fixed assets accounting.
· Performs other duties as assigned.
EDUCATION/LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS
B.S. in accounting (or equivalent education, training, or experience) required. MBA, CPA or
knowledge of advanced business concepts preferred.
EXPERIENCE
3-5 years general accounting experience. Experience in healthcare delivery, health insurance or
managed care is highly desirable. Must have a thorough knowledge of general accounting principles.
SKILLS
Must possess strong analytical skills with good communication and organizational skills. Proven
ability to work successfully with senior management. Thorough knowledge of PC software needed.
