A Brief Overview
Renders physical therapy services to an assigned caseload of children at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Contributes to the advancement of Physical Therapy practice through education of staff therapists, interns and other health care providers when appropriate.

What you will do
  • Clinical.
  • Examination: Able to perform examinations on individuals with complex medical, social, psychological issues after identifying necessary resources or learning needs.
  • Evaluation: Uses advances problem solving skills to care for complex cases based on available evidence. Seeks additional information as needed.
  • Diagnosis/Prognosis: Ability to identify subtle impairments and its impact on function and disability and develop a plan of care that integrates therapy into the lifestyle of the family.
  • Intervention: Provides advanced procedural, evidence based interventions with mentorship as needed on complex cases. Patient education is family centered by considering family lifestyle, environment, learning needs and collaborative goal setting. Documentation is thorough, complete and reflects integration of all areas of patient care.
  • Outcomes: Results of patient/client interaction include high level of patient/caregiver satisfaction, reduced risk for impairment, promotion of wellness, identification of internal resources. Seeks out information on community resources as needed.
  • Physical therapists shall demonstrate professional judgment informed by professional standards, evidence (including current literature and established best practice), practitioner experience, and patient/client values.
  • Delivers high quality, evidence-based clinical care and seeks appropriate mentorship for complex patient cases.

  • Maintains current skills and knowledge by identifying own learning needs, both formally and informally, to practice a lifestyle of life-long learning.
  • Clinical Education
  • Provides mentorship to staff and students in identified areas. Contributes to the continuing education endeavors within the department and hospital.
  • Serves as a primary credentialed CI to affiliating student.
  • External Teaching Opportunities
  • May serve as a resource to local Physical Therapy educational programs and related disciplines by assisting in lectures and/or labs on or offsite.
  • Contributes to the body of knowledge of Physical Therapy by being informed on the current literature and serving as a resource to other staff by sharing this knowledge.
  • Provides in-services within the department and Hospital
  • Interdisciplinary Communication and Coordination of Care
  • Understands and promotes the interdisciplinary role of Physical Therapy within the team
  • Practices in an interdisciplinary manner to address the multiple needs of the child and the family.
  • Able to make judgments within their scope of practice and level of expertise and shall communicate with, collaborate with, or refer to peers or other health care professionals when necessary.
  • Demonstrate professional judgment informed by professional standards, evidence (including current literature and established best practice), practitioner experience, and patient/client values.
  • Negotiates differences of opinion with other health care providers with appropriate justification based on knowledge.
  • Has earned the respect of other providers by developing a professional rapport.
  • Research
  • Demonstrate professional judgment informed by professional standards, evidence (including current literature and established best practice), practitioner experience, and patient/client values.
  • Applies evidence to practice. Able to access resources/literature to complement practice
  • Participates in and encourages activities that establishes the optimal outcomes of patient management provided by Physical Therapy.
  • Follows and identifies established guidelines and protocols based on best practice.
  • Administration
  • Contributes to department policy/procedures via program development, evaluation forms and clinical guidelines.
  • Maintains productivity and fiscal responsibility in the utilization/provision of services.
  • Provides supervisory support in absence of supervisor
  • Contributes to the development and modification of departmental / hospital systems as needed due to growth and / or changes in clinical programs.
Education Qualifications
  • Master's Degree Physical Therapy. Bachelor's Degree in Physical Therapy will be accepted for individuals licensed previous to December 31, 2002. Required
Experience Qualifications
  • At least three (3) years PT experience Required
  • At least one (1) year pediatric clinical experience Preferred
Licenses and Certifications
  • Licensed Physical Therapist (PT) (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required or
  • Licensed Physical Therapist (PT) (New Jersey) - New Jersey State Licensing Board - upon hire - Required and
  • Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) - issued through on organization that requires a hands-on instructor lead psychomotor skills verification (ex. American Heart Association or Red Cross). - within 3 months - Required
  • Credentialed Clinical Instructor (CCIP) - American Physical Therapy Association - upon hire - Preferred
