Summary:
The HIM Analyst performs a variety of health information management activities necessary to organize, maintain and use electronic health records such as scanning, assigning deficiencies, reviewing the medical record for accuracy and physician suspension duties. Handles requests for releasing medical records information from various sources. Demonstrates a high level of customer service and attention to detail to complete assignments related to documentation, coding, patient privacy, patient identity, deficiency management and release of information.
Responsibilities:
1. May be responsible for the receipt, scanning, indexing of medical record documents into the hospital’s electronic health record (EHR) in a timely and accurate manner.
2. Maintains an accurate and up-to-date MPI.
3. May assist physicians with completion of deficiencies and/or missing elements in the patient’s medical record in accordance with State and Federal regulations and the hospital’s Medical Staff Bylaws, Rules and Regulations.
4. Greets department visitors and telephone callers using professional customer service skills.
5. May assist with release of medical information (ROI) requests. Provides instruction or assistance in completing the ROI request process. Maintains appropriate documentation related to the release of information process.
6. Resolves medical record discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
7. May retrieve discharged medical records from all patient care units on a daily basis.
8. Communicates with providers and other allied health professionals in a professional, tactful manner at all times.
9. May performs monitoring and auditing functions through data collection and documentation review in accordance with the HIM Compliance Plan.
10. Maintains productivity levels as designated by the Director of HIM. Works efficiently to minimize backlogs in work assignments.
11. Maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
12. Attends departmental in-services, as appropriate.

Experience
• Prior work experience in a health care setting preferred.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
• Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English.
• Proficient with MS Office and able to learn new software rapidly.
Valid NC Driver’s License: No
If driving a Wayne UNC Vehicle, must be 21 years old and MVR must be approved by Risk Management.
