About the Role
THE POSITION
As data continues to grow in importance as an enabler for the investment process, the Investment Data Engineering and Analytics (IDEA) team will be responsible for centralizing and evolving our research data platform. This leader and their team will work directly with our community of investors to build and sustain a platform that allows seamless access to a library of foundational research data.
Recognizing the criticality of this capability, IDEA will be a dedicated team within the Investment Platform (IP) COO group. The IP COO is tasked with enabling the Investment Platform to achieve its growth and efficiency goals, focusing on creating scalable centers of excellence aligning with business needs, and integrating technology and business strategies. Key areas of existing work include business enablement, business intelligence and management, corporate engagement, and research services, and the team drives transformation efforts, operationalizes platform strategies, and ensures cohesive collaboration across various business lines.
This is a dynamic role that requires expertise of an investment process, technology vision and fluency in the data and modeling techniques used across varied investment products, architecture and domain expertise necessary to transform raw vendor data into clean investment-ready datasets, and the ability to frame key issues, develop recommendations, and own the quality of the platforms data. The ideal candidate must have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with a growth mindset, intellectual curiosity, build creditability and trust with our investors, and demonstrate strong business leadership skills. ESSENTIAL SKILLS
The following essential skills are required for the role:
• Strategic vision for investment research data – leverage the strong support from our Investment Platform Management Team to transform our research data and technology capabilities. Our investors cover a wide range of investment processes and instruments – the successful candidate will demonstrate an ability to creatively suggest new ways of reimagining the tools they use every day to improve these sophisticated and complex investment styles through the lens of better data. Proven track record of successfully executing complex, cross-functional projects and aligning competing demands across multiple large data vendors.
• Leadership through superior collaboration, communication, and influencing skills – leads by building strong, trusting relationships. Proactively contributes and persuades effectively in a highly collaborative environment by asking probing questions, challenging the status quo, and having the humility to recognize the benefits of diverse perspectives while driving a group to consensus. Shows clear communication of a strategic vision (both verbally and in writing), integrates numerous viewpoints, builds agreement, and mobilizes / influences across all levels of the organization.
• Technological fluency – technical expert on financial research data architecture to be the conduit between our technology partners and investment teams in the creation of a cohesive technical vision that continually evolves with the changing data landscape. In a fast-paced environment, he/she possesses the ability to quickly develop expertise on the nuances of our current data infrastructure, sufficient to make platform decisions that allow us to fully collapse legacy systems into a central capability.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Close interaction with investors, technologists, and the leadership team to architect, develop, and maintain an Investment Platform research data capability that meets the growing needs of our data-driven investors and achieves the economies of scale that a manager of our size should realize
• Lead a talented team of quantitative developers who jointly own trust in the data, such that investors feel confident using the data in their fundamental and systematic research
• Strong business judgment and strategic thinker with the domain expertise to prioritize and enable the team’s tech roadmap
• Promotes a platform-wide approach to our data vendor relationships, ensuring a rational balance across our varied team needs
• Builds strong relationships with our Enterprise Data Services team to ensure our needs are represented in broader data plans and priorities
QUALIFICATIONS
Additional qualifications and individual characteristics include:
• 10+ years of experience in a quantitative development role in asset management, with a proven track record of architecting a research data capability
• Expert in modern database architecture for financial services applications for cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services and Snowflake, and modern open-source data solutions
• Proficiency with research data across asset classes (equity, fixed income, commodities, options, etc.) and symbologies, including managing financial statement datasets (Compustat, Factset, etc.), and bi-temporal data for back testing
• Extensive programming skills and architectural design experience, heavy emphasis on python data libraries
• Builder, strategic business leader, concise communicator, and a change agent
• Track record of delivering solutions to large-scale problems and huge data sets
• Superior organizational skills with results orientation. Effective prioritization of multiple projects simultaneously
• Credibility to engage productively with senior investors and leaders, including the capacity for differentiated thinking, constructive challenge of the status quo, and ability to problem solve effectively

Our approach to compensation considers all aspects of total compensation; all employees are eligible to receive salary, variable compensation, and benefits. The base salary range for this position is:
USD 100,000 - 225,000This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered when making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets; role; skills and experience; certifications; and education. This range is an estimate, and further details on salary and total compensation aspects will be shared with candidates during the recruitment process.
Base salary is only one component of Wellington’s total compensation approach. Other rewards may include a discretionary Corporate Bonus and/ or Incentives, if eligible.
