Job Summary
Must be eligible for Work Study Fall 2024. This is a position with an off campus agency. The agency is seeking an enthusiastic student who will assist the executive director with programs, tours, and daily office functions in a semi-professional environment. This position is best suited for applicants who enjoy working with the public or hope to gain experience in a museum setting.
Responsibilities*
- Administrative Assistance - office duties ranging from answering phones to filing and sorting peperwork, assist the director with arranging meetings or booking tours.
- Assist with special events and tours, setting up tables and chairs for programs, and assisting with set up and clean up.
- Conducting tours as needed.
- Managing the front desk and gift shop.
- Occasional heavy lifting, moving and creating exhibits in a museum setting.
- Ability to climb three flights of stairs is helpful.
- Light cleaning of museum and artifacts (with training).
- Most work occurs within an office/house environment, but the workspace will also include an attic, a basement, and similar areas with low light and varying temperatures, as well as outdoor activities.

Required Qualifications*
- Valid Michigan's Driver's License. successfully pass a background screening.
- Flexible schedule: Hours of operation are Tuesday-Friday 10am-4pm, with open tours every 1st and 3rd Saturday 11am-2pm. Must be available at least 1 Saturday per month. Occasional after hours programs assistance as needed.
- Ability to do some heavy lifting, working inside and outside.
Desired Qualifications*
Prior experience using computers and other office equipment is recommended.
Modes of Work
Onsite
The work requires, or the supervisor approves a fully onsite presence. Onsite is defined as a designated U-M owned or leased work location within or outside of the State of Michigan
