Summary

This position is located within the Billings Area Indian Health Service, Fort Peck Service Unit, Poplar/Wolf Point, MT. The purpose of this position is to provide comprehensive administrative management assistance to the Director of Nursing and daily clinical oversight to the Nursing Services personnel located at the FPSU, which includes Nursing staff, Health Technician Clinical Assistants and Medical Support Assistants.


Duties

  • Provides orientation to new employees, contractors and volunteers in the Nursing Services Branch.
  • Develops and monitors Performance Improvement (PI) activities for the Nursing Services Branch. Assures staff participation and multidisciplinary involvement in Service Unit PI activities.
  • Advises Director of Nursing when staffing shortfalls are anticipated. Recommends modified staffing patterns, adjustments to leave and new sources of nursing staffing when required.
  • Plans for short term/long term developments of the program and works effectively with the Service Unit administration to accomplish these goals.
  • Conducts employment interviews, offering tours of the facility and typical nursing staff functions. Coordinators with the health care administration to ensure a smooth flow of interviewing, application, selection and appointment.

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education
A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the at the time the degree was obtained.

Degree from Foreign Nursing School
Official certification from the is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools.

Licensure
For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the . In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.

Basic Requirements for the GS-11 (or equivalent) Grade Level
In addition to the above requirements, applicants must meet one of the following requirements:
Successful completion of a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field

OR

At least one full year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) and possession of a diploma, associate degree, bachelor's degree, or master's degree from a professional nursing educational program.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Serves as principal advisor to the Director of Nursing regarding planning and coordination of nursing and administrative functions. Overseeing staffing schedules for Nursing Services Branch, projecting staffing needs. Oversees department supplies, requests, approvals, orders, to keep clinical service continuity and work place operations.
