What You'll Do
As our Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, you'll work with our Superintendent to direct and oversee the operations, staff and maintenance of our beautiful course in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. Additionally, you will:
- Supervise and oversee staff, equipment operation, ground maintenance needs and fertility/fungicide program.
- Train and supervise a team of up to 35 seasonal associates while ensuring all safety protocols and policies are adhered to.
- Plan and schedule watering and irrigation cycles according to turf and plant requirements and help to oversee the repairs, maintenance, and designs of the irrigation, pumping and drainage systems.
- Monitor the grounds for disease and pest infestations and perform/oversee appropriate applications while ensuring all safety procedures and laws are followed.
- Prepare and maintain inventory and record updates for required supplies, parts, chemicals and equipment.
- Assist with plant selection, maintenance, and bed designs.
- Coordinate snow removal as needed.
- Provide supervision and technical expertise on various projects to ensure timelines/deadlines are met while exceeding expectations for course conditions.
What it Takes
- Technical Degree or equivalent work experience with degree in arboriculture, agronomy, biology, horticulture or landscape-related field strongly preferred
- 2+ years of related work experience with previous supervisory greens experience at an 18-hole golf course, including involvement in all aspects of maintenance
- State certification or licensing as a pesticide applicator required
- Knowledge of landscape design, turf management and understanding of and ability to grow plants, shrubs and trees in Midwest
- Participation in continuing education courses provided by GCSAA
- Ability to lift to 50 pounds as needed
- Valid driver license required
- Available to work irregular hours/days to meet deadlines or accommodate weather conditions
