Deputy Division Chief

Constitutional & Administrative Law Division

Government Bureau

The Constitutional & Administrative Law (CADLAW) Division defends state agencies and officials against constitutional and other legal challenges to state statutes and regulations; suits that challenge the implementation of state policies and programs; and suits for judicial review of the decisions of state administrative agencies. The Division also occasionally initiates affirmative litigation on behalf of state agencies to support their programs or assist their regulatory activities.

Primary Duties: The Deputy Chief will work with the Division Chief and the Managing Attorneys to oversee the work of the CADLAW Division. The responsibilities will include both administrative and substantive legal matters. The Managing Attorney will assist the Division Chief in assigning cases, and in supervising-and conducting regular case reviews for-Division AAGs. The Deputy Chief will also interact regularly with our agency clients, with other AGO divisions and bureaus, and (as necessary) with other governmental entities, the courts, and the public. Additionally, the Deputy Chief will assume responsibility for overseeing some of the Division's "devolved" cases, organizing orientation and training of new Division AAGs, and evaluating formal and informal Opinions requests from agency officials. The Deputy Chief will also maintain an active (but reduced) caseload.

Position Type: Full-Time/Exempt. Our current hybrid model includes some telework days for most positions.

Salary: $126,531
