LifeSource is hiring a Surgical Recovery Coordinator (SRC) to collaborate with external and internal partners during organ and tissue recovery procedures and to facilitate the coordination of recovery events by providing organ preservation, packaging and delivery services. Provides prompt, professional, and effective service to partners and customers to meet requirements and enhance relationships. Surgical Recovery Coordinators travel to operating rooms across the Midwest and the US to facilitate organ donation opportunities by providing organ preservation, packaging and delivery services.

As a Surgical Recovery Coordinator, you’ll advance our life-saving work by performing the following job duties:

  • Independently facilitates and coordinates all aspects of the surgical recovery, preservation, packaging and transportation for organ and tissue donation cases.
  • Assembles, packages and transports preservation supplies and equipment for transportation to donation site.

  • Collaborates with donor hospital partners to ensure effective operating room setup, instrumentation and back tables are optimal to facilitate the organ donation process.

  • Utilizing sterile technique, scrubs in to assemble sterile supplies and packaging materials on back tables.

  • Facilitates preservation and packaging of organs for transplantation or research in accordance with transplant center requirements. Focuses on maintaining viability by following Organ Procurement Transplant Network (OPTN) standards and LifeSource procedures.

  • Execute and monitor mechanical preservation of organs by positioning cannula and placement of organs on pulsatile perfusion device using sterile technique to optimize organ acceptance.

  • Retrieval of equipment, including organ pumps and coolers, from transplant centers, ensuring sufficient equipment at all LifeSource facilities.

Schedule:

  • This position is a .9 FTE. Requires three 12-hour shifts per week. Schedule is set up as a 3 week rotating block, which includes weekdays, weekends and holidays. Requires working every 3rd weekend (this includes Friday, Saturday, Sunday). Schedule is a variable remote and in-person blended schedule, based on case activity needs. Night shift hours are 8:00pm-8:30am. Must report on-site within 1 hour of notification.
  • Follows assigned work schedule, in accordance with Surgical Recovery Team Departmental Guidelines and Expectations, which may vary based on the needs of the organization and may require additional time commitment outside of scheduled shifts for meetings or trainings. Overtime may be appropriate to meet organizational needs. May require extended periods of work time including travel.

Qualifications:

  • Requires a combination of education and experience with a surgical focus of human anatomy and a minimum of one year of experience in a hospital-based operating room environment and with aseptic/sterile technique execution.
  • Designation as a Certified Surgical Technologist, Certified Surgical Assistant, Surgical Technologist or equivalent preferred.
  • An independent contributor in the operating room, entails self-direction, ability to function autonomously, establish priorities and work effectively with an external team.
  • Requires successful completion of Certified Transplant Preservationist certification within two (2) years of entry in the position. Once certified, you must obtain the required continuing education or recertification credits/process.
  • Must maintain a valid driver license and have reliable personal automobile to be used with company reimbursement using IRS guidelines.
  • Maintains an awareness of advancements in the field of organ recovery and preservation through attendance of trainings or continuing educational opportunities.
  • Previous experience executing critical thinking and analytical skills to confidently make reasonable and sound decisions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills including effective written correspondence, active listening,and professional customer service response at all levels.

Working Conditions:

  • Able to travel within the LifeSource service area (MN, ND, SD, and a portion of WI) by ground or air, via small charter aircraft, safely during various weather conditions.
  • Frequently lift objects up to 100 pounds and transfer short distances. Ability to push/pull up to 150 pounds with assistance. Heavier objects should be lifted and transferred using team help.
  • Affected team members in Category I are regularly exposed to bloodborne pathogens and have a potential for this exposure or handle materials that could spread infection (one or more potential opportunities per month). Additionally, they have regular interaction with staff in patient or donor areas in a hospital or clinic setting while performing their assigned job duties.
