This position is with a large utility company in Los Angeles. This role is 3 months long, 40 hours per week. There may be a possibility of extension. 

You will be assisting our Experience Design team to create personas and journey maps, which will assist in making our field personnel more efficient.

You'll be working directly with members of our Transmission & Distribution group, with minimal oversight from the Design Group manager, developing a research plan and delivering journey maps and persona documents for three user groups of a common tool used by field personnel.

Research:

  • Performing virtual and in-person interviews with three field roles who use a common tool
  • Developing journey maps and personas for the three field roles
  • Interfacing directly with the 'clients' in our Transmission & Distribution operating unit.
  • Planning and leading workshops to gather requirements to evolve designs.
  • nterviewing users to understand current processes, pain points, and opportunities.
  • Designing and conducting both informal and formal user testing, either collaborating with other designers, or independently.
  • Performing on-site observation and testing in the southern California service territory.

Experiencing:

  • Seven (7) or more years of experience solving complex UX problems
  • Four (4) or more years of experience communicating the UX to stakeholders and developers via flows, wireframes, mockups, and prototypes.
  • Experience working with multi-functional teams to achieve quality user experience.
  • Experience leading discussions with the development team, product managers, and stakeholders to communicate UX and design.
  • Experience leading UX discovery activities to gain an understanding of project requirements.
  • Experience designing and facilitating usability testing.
  • Skilled in standard design & wireframing tools and simple prototyping tools (e.g. Figma, Sketch)
  • Experience creating high-level artifacts (journey maps, experience maps, personas, flow diagrams, etc.)

Ideal Candidate:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, Human Factors, Human-Computer Interaction, Industrial Design, or related major.
  • Prototyping (we use prototypes to communicate design and for user testing).

You should know:

  • Willingness and ability to go to the Company’s office once or twice in LA, California. Company will reimburse for travel

The target hiring compensation range for this role is $70 to $80 an hour. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
