We are currently seeking a professional, innovative, and enthusiastic Executive Director for our Northern California, San Jose Chapter.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW:
The Executive Director is responsible for serving as the primary liaison to communities in highly complex markets with populations at or over 1.5 million to support region-led mission capacity building and fulfillment. Inform the regional leadership team of community needs and perceptions and strengthen relationships across the community through comprehensive communication of American Red Cross programs, capabilities, and opportunities for community involvement. Provide support, development and/or leadership guidance to all volunteers.
Perform all duties and responsibilities in compliance with standard operating procedures and other applicable Federal, State and local regulations.
WHERE YOUR CAREER IS A FORCE GOOD:
- Serve as the face of American Red Cross to maximize American Red Cross presence and connectivity in the community and expand the community’s recognition of the breadth of the American Red Cross contribution to the community in a highly complex market.
- Lead the achievement of region revenue, volunteer engagement, blood collection, and community engagement mission goals by identifying and strengthening specific strategic relationships in the community and serving as a connector for internal stakeholders for these activities.
- Influence and create an environment of team and inclusion to effectively deliver against the American Red Cross mission.
- Serve as a member of the Elected Officials Liaison Network supporting disaster responses across the nation.
- Develop and manage a large cohort of community volunteer leaders to serve as the face of the Red Cross in assigned territories, support mission capacity building by developing key community partnerships, and to recruit volunteers.
WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED:
- Education: Bachelor's degree required.
- Experience: Minimum 7 years of related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience required.
- Management Experience: NA
- Skills & Abilities: Ability to work on a team.
- Travel: May travel and participate in meetings and conferences throughout chapter jurisdiction, state, and Red Cross system.
*Combination of candidate’s education and general experience satisfies requirements so long as the total years equate to description’s minimum education and general experience years combined (Management experience cannot be substituted).
WHAT WILL GIVE YOU THE COMPETITIVE EDGE:
- A master’s degree in the field of community organization, public or business administration, or non-profit management.
- Fundraising and revenue generation experience in the Northern California market.
COMPENSATION RANGE AND BENEFITS FOR YOU:
The salary range for this position is $125,840.00 to $134,160.00

Physical Requirements
Physical requirements are those present in normal office environment conditions. Operational flexibility is required to meet sudden and unpredictable needs. Ability to use a personal computer, applicable software, and office equipment for sustained periods of time. May include sitting for long periods of time, driving a vehicle, and working under challenging conditions.
