The Vice President, Material and Analytical Sciences (VP, MAS) leads a multidisciplinary team which is accountable for material and Analytical sciences with the focus to drive- portfolio focused innovation and scientific impact to advance the global NCE portfolio from Start of Development (SOD) through submission. By developing and applying advanced technologies, MAS supports development of robust product and process understanding as well as trouble shooting, facilitates integrated drug substance and drug product development, and partner with other Country Management Committee (CMC) functions to drive "predict and confirm" approach that accelerates timelines, enhances efficiencies, and reduces costs. This role also ensures application of MAS's unique and advanced capabilities and expertise to support other areas, including new therapeutic modalities, and collaborates e.g. with Research, and Operations to solve complex challenges whenever appropriate.
The VP, MAS is responsible for early-stage drug substance analytical development and API engineering to support drug substance development assigned to Chemical Development US, as well as solid form screening and confirmation for NCE projects post SoD.
The VP, MAS is a member of the CMC NCE leadership team (CNLT), Development Site Leadership team (DSL), and Richfield IU Council. This role is responsible for setting strategic directions that align with global priorities, supporting local initiatives, influencing, and executing globally aligned strategies that maximize MAS's impact for the benefit of the portfolio. The incumbent is also responsible for people development, fostering adoption of our new behaviors, and building a high performing team to advance portfolios to achieve first4patients ambition.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Ensures provision of effective support and timely deliverables to all assigned projects.
- Provides timely and effective support to other businesses as needed.
- Within the global strategy, responsible for identification, investment in, and development of innovative processes and technologies that increase product and process understanding and robustness.
- Ensures continuous investigation, development and application of innovative science-based methods, processes, and tools.
- Ensures dissemination of new tools and methods to other groups when appropriate.
- Partners with DSDM leadership to create and implement an aligned global vision and strategy for drug substance development, and with DPDM leadership to create and implement an aligned global vision and strategy for drug product development.
- Provides leadership at the drug-substance and drug product interface.
- Ensures all CMC-related groups in Global Development are abreast of current scientific/technical advances, through internal efforts, external technical groups, and scientific literature.
- Contributes vision and strategic leadership; assists Company Management in setting Corporate and Company goals.
- Contributes technical vision and strategy in support of product portfolio and Global Development mission.
- Serves on DPDM, DSDM, Development Committee, for assigned projects.
Requirements
- Doctoral degree (e.g. PhD, MD) in Pharmaceutics, chemistry, physics, analytical sciences, or related field required.
- Proven ability to lead and influence in a global, diverse organization.
- Demonstrated ability to work globally in a cooperative, integrated team setting.
- Effective budget and resource management.
- Record of fostering creativity and implementation of innovation with clear focus on portfolio.
- Proven record of recruiting and developing others.
- Effective in decision-making/risk-management (e.g. regulatory strategies).
Eligibility Requirements:
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without restriction.
- Must be willing to take a drug test and post-offer physical (if required).
- Must be 18 years of age or older.
Compensation Data
This position offers a base salary typically between $250,000 and $394,000. The position may be eligible for a role specific variable or performance based bonus and or other compensation elements. For an overview of our benefits please click here.
