The role:

Our Road Inventory and Classification Services unit is currently seeking a transportation asset specialist to join our team in Salem. In this role, you will play a key role in maintaining data in the TransInfo database, which supports various important reports and systems. You will also answer customer questions and actively provide support for the State Highway Video Log. If you are interested in this opportunity apply today!

A day in the life:

  • Research road and highway engineering plans to examine road alignment, surface condition, width, bridges, signage, bicycle and pedestrian facilities, culverts and other related data.

  • Work with ArcGIS for various assigned tasks.

  • Research data issues and process changes.

  • Translate and enter construction plans and other data into internal program.

  • Produce reports using computer query procedures.

  • Collect field data for statewide roadway field inventories for agency programs.

  • Oversee and maintain the unit’s field inventory collection manual, vehicle and equipment.

  • Drive a state-owned vehicle with computer equipment and record and review road feature data.

  • When not in the field, work in a typical office environment. Hybrid work options available. Frequent overnight travel around the state is required May through September.

  • Work includes driving, walking, standing, bending, stooping and sitting for extended periods of time and lifting up to 60 pounds.

Minimum qualifications:

Three and one-half years (42 months) of sub-professional engineering experience.

OR

An associate's degree in engineering technology from a community college or technical school of engineering and two years of experience directly related to engineering.

OR
An equivalent combination of education and experience (such as a bachelor’s degree in engineering plus six months’ engineering experience).

Note: If you are currently a transportation maintenance specialist 2 or have been one in the past, you may receive credit for related work. We will review your current and any previous position descriptions on file in Human Resources for your time working in the transportation maintenance specialist 2 classification. You may also submit section three of your transportation maintenance specialist 2 position description to receive credit for your related work. If your experience includes work in multiple maintenance disciplines (e.g., highway, sign, bridge, striping or landscape) please attach section three of the position description for each of the relevant disciplines.

Special qualifications:

Driving is an essential function of this position. You must have a valid driver license and an acceptable driving record. We will conduct pre-employment driving records checks on our final candidate(s). Your license does not have to be issued in Oregon to be considered.

  • Demonstrated experience using programs like SQL, Python, Oracle or any related asset database software.

  • Demonstrated experience reading and understanding construction plans, maps and specifications.

  • Demonstrated experience maintaining safe working conditions close to traffic.

  • Demonstrated experience using video recording and duplication devices.

  • Demonstrated experience reading, recording and reporting on data collected.
