Overview:

Provide regulatory support to NRG's retail businesses in Texas by working with internal teams to promptly investigate, resolve, and respond to issues and concerns raised by NRG's residential and small commercial customers to the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUCT) across all NRG Energy retail brands in Texas. The candidate must be able to effectively respond to customer inquiries and complaints received from the PUCT and Company Executives to ensure timely responses in compliance with PUCT requirements. These complex issues require multiple skill sets, including strong oral and written communication skills, ability to analyze a variety of complaints and draw valid conclusions, and ability to work independently. Additionally, the candidate will be expected to possess and develop a strong grasp of NRG's operational processes and general knowledge of PUCT customer protection rules and must be able to utilize such knowledge for effective resolution of customer and PUCT concerns.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Research and resolve customer-related issues received from the PUCT.
  • Understand NRG Retail operations to determine the root cause of customer concerns and assist in regulatory guidance to the business to resolve identified issues.
  • Understand and correctly apply PUCT customer protection rules.
  • Edit and compose written responses to the PUCT, which succinctly and accurately address customer complaints and inquiries within required deadlines.
  • Interface diplomatically and build relationships with PUCT Consumer Protection Division and regulatory staff as well as internal stakeholders.
  • Propose solutions to the Business based on research and root cause analysis to prevent future complaints, issues and errors from occurring.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
  • Knowledge of applicable PUCT regulations and rules

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience working PUCT informal customer complaints for a retail electric provider.
  • Previous Energy/Utility experience

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Exceptional written communication skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Detail-oriented and able to multi-task
  • Willingness and ability to learn

Working Conditions:

  • Hybrid work schedule - 3 days per week in Austin, TX office (M, Tu, Th) and 2 days per week remote (W, F). If relocation to Austin is not possible, remote work may be arranged.
  • Open office environment
  • Some overtime required as special projects arise
  • Minimal travel to NRG's corporate headquarters in Houston, TX
