United Way Miami, Inc. is hiring a Teacher Assistant to join our team. As Teacher Assistant, you will support the teacher and co-teacher in planning and implementing lesson plans, incorporating all components of the lesson plan, and leading large and small groups of children. Assist in coordinating and conducting developmental screenings, and health services, and may involve family services, depending on the number of scheduled hours for the position, including family visits and participation in planning, training, and parent meetings.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
Program:
- In collaboration with the teacher and co-teacher assist in providing experiences that build on children's prior experiences
- Model appropriate behavior and expectations
- In collaboration assist the teaching team in capitalizing on opportunities to help children build vocabulary
Program:
- Assist the teacher and co-teacher in implementing a reflective curriculum that provides a balance that supports the child's learning.
- Assist in meeting the individual needs of the group.
- Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and respect towards persons of different cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Assist the teacher and co-teacher in the setup of the classroom environment by preparing materials and supplies in advance for the experiences
- Under the guidance of the lead teacher participate in the lesson plans and documentation of the classroom
- Demonstrate knowledge of the Head Start performance standards and Educare model
- Assist in filling, and scanning documents from the classroom and other office requirements the teaching team might need assistance with (it may include assessments, screenings, home visit reports, and parent-teacher conferences)
- Assist in downloading pictures and organize them in the classroom folder
Staff/Parent interactions:
- Acknowledge and respond to all parents and visitors in a friendly, courteous, and professional demeanor.
- Keep information confidential and only shared with pertaining staff.
- Implement the touchpoint guiding principles and assumptions
- Encourage the active participation of all parents in the classroom
Use of data:
- Following the guidance from the teaching team look at the overall summary scores, subscales, and individual items from screening and assessments.
Health/Safety/Nutrition:
- Supervise children, following all safety and health rules and knowing the number of children in groups at all times
- Assist in keeping the environment safe, clean, and organized.
- Assist in completing appropriate documentation to report incidents and accidents.
Professionalism:
- Demonstrate knowledge and flexibility in childcare practices, continuing ongoing professional development.
- Attend all required meetings/training and be punctual.
- Maintain confidentiality of children and their families.
Teamwork:
- Maintain a relationship of cooperation and respect, maintain confidentiality, and also
- Participate in classroom and center events.
- Be open to communicating and collaborate at all times by maintaining a cooperative attitude of working together with the teacher, co-teacher, master teacher, family engagement, school director, and parents and volunteer in planning and implementing activities
Physical Demands:
- Follow state, federal, and UWM guidelines
- Be able to lift to 40 pounds
- Interact with children at all times
- Respond appropriately to multiple situations or emergencies.
- Communicate incidents/accidents to the supervisor and complete proper documentation.
- Maintain mental and physical alertness and an appropriate level of energy to perform essential job requirements.
Education Requirements: A high school diploma or equivalent. Department of Children and Families - 45 hours (as required by the state of Florida) CDA credential within one year of employment.
Experience Requirements: One (1) year of experience working with young children in a group setting.
Technology Requirements: Beginning Internet Explorer, Intermediate Word, Beginning Excel, Beginning Outlook.
Other Essential Knowledge/Skills: Flexibility. Understand concepts around Visible Thinking, Multiple Intelligence, Dual Language, Inclusion, Early Literacy strategies, and Inquiry-Based Learning.
