Summer 2025 Hiring Departments Include
Change Delivery (Albany, NY)
Our Change Delivery team is responsible for supporting our Upstate New York Programs and Dispatch teams that sit within our company's Gas Operations department. The team continues to develop innovative strategies to improve areas such as Damage Prevention, Service Line Inspection, Leak Survey, Meter Shop, Corrosion, and Dispatch for the Upstate New York region. In addition, they are responsible for creating a sustainable work plan to ensure compliance metrics are met. As a Gridtern, you will have the opportunity to utilize PowerBI to improve our reporting tools and help support a deeper and more efficient analysis for each of these teams.
Distribution Design (Albany, NY)
Our Distribution Design team provides designs and support for National Grid's distribution projects ensuring the delivery of fiscally responsible work plans that adhere to standards for permitting, easement acquisition, costs, and construction. As a Gridtern, you will assist in developing and automating processes, procedures, and programs to drive efficiency within our organization. You will also work on preparing and reviewing reports to track projects and required metrics along with developing job aids to assist in training both current and new designers.
Distribution Planning & Asset Management (Albany, NY)
Our Distribution Planning & Asset Management team closely monitors and reports on the asset condition of our existing Distribution Substation, Sub Transmission Line, and Distribution Line assets. The team works closely with the Planning Engineering department when identifying an asset condition concerning an existing asset and works to resolve issues and concerns with asset degradation to ensure system resiliency. As a Gridtern, you will work to enhance the quality and access of SubT data through updates, corrections, component walk downs, etc. You will also reviewDistributed Generation requests and process approvals for funding projects.
EAME - NY Distributed Generation Liaison (Albany, NY)
Our Distributed Generation (DG) Liaison team is responsible for maintaining our company's priorities and maximizing its effectiveness in meeting state and company clean energy goals within the New York area. This team continues to find ways to improve our end-to-end processes, foster cultural change across all functions, improve its relationship with customers/ developers and the perceptions of company with NY State regulators. As a Gridtern, you will support engineers in evaluating and assessing new technologies and research funding opportunities. In addition, you will prepare newsletters highlighting key projects and initiatives being led while assisting in preparing updates for our distributed generation interconnection standards.
Gas Distribution Engineering (Albany, NY)
Our Gas Distribution Engineering team is responsible for providing completed engineering design packages for our construction teams to execute in the field. This team works on several project drivers including proactive leak prone pipe replacement work, gas distribution system reinforcement and reliability improvements, and public works. As a Gridtern, you will assist with routine data management tasks including providing project design status updates and progress analysis. In addition, you will also support various bookkeeping / record scrubbing to assess quality of historical data and mapping records.
Integrated Planning and Solutions (Albany, NY)
Our Integrated Planning and Solutions team participates in the development, implementation and management of new technologies while continuously finding ways for automation. This team is responsible for engaging with stakeholders, government agencies, consenting authorities and media within the development phases of a project. As they work to determine options to be considered for the project at initiation to satisfy the need case for investment. This team ensures that a robust basis of design is produced for each scheme - documenting the reasons for the investment, each options considered, costs and program. As a Gridtern, you will work on providing a perspective to each business development from an engineering lens towards new concepts. Additionally, you will work on brainstorming new options to be considered for each project at the initiation stage.
NY Customer Sales and Solutions / EV & DR Implementation (Albany, NY)
Our NY Customer Sales and Solutions team implements programs that support our customers' and our communities' transition to a cleaner future of energy. With the adoption of incentivized programs for Commercial and Residential customers focused on Demand Response (DR) and Electric Vehicles (EV). These programs have helped National Grid meet our commitment to the state's Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act goals and support the cost savings of our customers. As a Gridtern, you will be provided with exposure to our utility incentive programs. This role will enable you to obtain a deeper lens on our regulatory orders along with the implementation of marketing outreaches and with the use of data analysis identify trends to modify program designs or reach segments of our customer base.
People & Performance (Albany, NY)
Our People & Performance team works to provide specific guidance to managers on issues related to the underperformance of management employees. This team provides Employee Relations (ER) support to managers including administering employment policies and practices, researching and/or investigating team member concerns, and making recommendations that effectively promote positive employee relations. As a Gridtern, you will support the Performance team with data entry and case management into our newly implemented Service Now portal. Additionally, you will create reports and presentations on case volume for the business unit and other ad hoc projects that involve talent data analysis and talent management reporting for the business partners.
Vegetation and Reliability Analytics (Albany, NY)
Our Vegetation and Reliability Analytics team manages the creation, maintenance, and reporting pertaining to our company's vegetation strategy and electrical reliability performance within our upstate New York territory. This team focuses on the internal and external tracking, reporting, and projecting of National Grid's distribution and transmission electrical system performance and find ways to better display how the company is trending regarding various filters and focuses on system components. As a Gridtern, you will assist with tracking and sorting specific categories of equipment and their performances, such as National Grid's distribution, sub-transmission, and transmission system. Additionally, you will work with other reliability engineers to determine trending areas regarding weather and failed electrical components, while also working with the vegetation strategy team to see if trends can be found regarding vegetation outages.
What You'll Need
- Availability to start on program start date, May 27, 2025, and work full-time (40 hours a week) throughout your duration of the summer
- Registered in school as a full-time student and continuing education full-time for Fall 2025 Semester
- Pursuing an Bachelor's, or Master's degree
- Majoring in Computer Science, Business Administration, Electrical Engineering, General Engineering, Data Science, Project Management, Computer Engineering, Human Resources, Management Information Systems, GIS/ Information Systems, Software Development or a related field
- Accumulated 18 or more credits and be 18 years of age
- Work authorization that does not now or in the future require sponsorship of a visa for employment authorization in the United States (including CPT & OPT)
- Some Gridtern positions will require a valid US Driver's license with a safe driving history that meets National Grid's Safe Driver policy. This qualification will be included in the department specific Gridtern role(s) descriptions at point of interview

Salary Range
$18.00 - $29.00
(Salary placement is determine based on your academic standing, with variations depending on whether you are a Bachelors or Masters level student)
Candidates will be assessed and provided offers based on major, degree type, and class year. Our Gridtern Program does not offer relocation, housing assistance, or public transportation reimbursement for Gridterns; however, we can provide a list of resources to utilize in making your arrangements.
Please note that as a Gridtern, you must reside within our existing footprint, which includes Massachusetts, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Connecticut, New Hampshire, Maine, Rhode Island, and Vermont. You must also reside within a reasonable, commutable distance to your assigned primary office.
