Description

This position at Union Pacific operates as a senior railroad police officer with employee and public safety as their first priority! This position has responsibility for the ongoing monitoring and apprehension of organized criminal enterprises which prey on the railroad. The employee in this role plans and coordinates police operations to ensure customer assets and ladings reach their destinations secure and intact. They also investigate and initiate efforts towards non-cargo losses against the railroad. To assist these efforts, the position may specialize in one of the following areas: Accident Analyst, Investigator, Canine, Instructor, or Public Safety.

Accountabilities

  • Participate in the executive protection of the Board of Directors, Corporate Officers and senior leaders, their families and their guests
  • Participate in "red team" audits on critical targets to test vulnerabilities and validate effectiveness of security measures
  • Implement the Union Pacific's Homeland Security Plan countermeasures as threat levels change
  • Promote public safety through grade crossing traffic enforcement operations (UPCARES) and the investigation of unsafe motorist incidents
  • Ensure that highly sensitive government shipments requiring special handling are protected or inspected according to federal rules and regulations
  • Participate in crime reduction enforcement operations to ensure customers' lading moves intact and without unnecessary delay from origin to destination
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Share inter-department responsibility for employee and public safety, crossing accident and third-party personal injury investigation, freight claim resolution, civil investigation, hazardous material release and related environment issues
  • Investigate all criminal activities that occur on railroad property, including, but not limited to, writing comprehensive reports and warrant documents, interviewing victims and witnesses, preparing criminal cases for prosecution, personally testifying, maintaining files and documentation.

Qualifications - Required

  • A high school diploma or Graduate Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • Valid driver's license
  • Certified and/or licensed as a commissioned law enforcement officer by the state in which this position is located or currently employed as a special agent within the Union Pacific Police Department. A Copy of P.O.S.T. certificate and/or certificate number, where applicable, must be included in application to be eligible for consideration.

  • Must be able to apply established protocols in a timely manner
  • Required to react quickly to sounds and situations.


Work Conditions

  • The work environment requires work both inside and outside in heat/cold, wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions.
  • Work outdoors in all weather conditions, including snow, ice, rain, cold and heat.
  • Instead of working a standard 40-hour week, there are variable work hours and irregularly scheduled days off. Employees are on call, even on nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Frequently required to use personal protective equipment to prevent exposure to hazardous materials.
  • Working around moving objects or vehicles.
  • Must be able to work various shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Regular travel and overnight stays may be required
  • Must be able to respond to emergencies at any time, including during off-duty hours.

The salary range for this position is $80,000 - $120,000. The final salary of the selected candidate for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to, experience, education, specialty and training. This position also includes additional compensation and benefits offered by Union Pacific. This position is eligible for participation in the Union Pacific Annual Compensation Program. This is a pay-for-performance program which administers annual salary adjustments, cash incentive bonuses and stock equity as determined by individual performance, company performance and program guidelines. Additionally, this position is eligible for health and welfare benefits, retirement, financial planning benefits and paid and unpaid leave.
