Full Job Description

Our leading education client is looking for a talented Senior UI/Visual Designer to join their Technology-Brand Design team!

As our Senior UI/Visual Designer, you are a talented designer who is highly skilled and motivated with a passion for user-centered design. You're a stickler for details and seek to design impactful experiences through effective and meaningful UI/UX. You can be in the "thick" of things with product teams you support, but also look at the big picture and see how all the products are connected-and seek to bring consistency and quality across the entire journey. You will nurture the new brand, and shepherd it to its next iteration - applying mobile best practices, interaction design, branding, illustration, data visualization, iconography, to the entire experience. Within Student and the ecosystem, you will work closely with the Lead Designer to ensure a consistent and holistic UI experience.

You will also work with the Creative Director to contribute to and support the UI/Visual Design discipline within our design team. You will collaborate closely with fellow design team members, product leads, and engineering partners to conceptualize, ideate, design, and deliver creative solutions that achieve business goals and serve user needs. You will learn our global design system and system architecture and become an expert and evangelist for both. You will also contribute to the overall brand, working across channels to help reach our audience in a consistent way.

In this role, you will:
Design & Implementation (60%)

  • Conceptualize and define UI/Visual Design in your respective product teams, coordinating closely with your Design Lead, through interactivity studies, wireframes, user journeys, and prototypes
  • Promote and create a consistent user experience throughout the journey, leveraging existing design systems, patterns, and UI elements
  • Contribute to the maintenance and evolution of the design system-documenting best practices and creating usage guidelines
  • Coordinate with Design, Product, and Engineering teams to ensure timely delivery of design artifacts
  • Partner with UX, Design Research and Content to explore new opportunities to help grow the brand and suite of products
  • Align closely with Creative Director and UI/Visual Design discipline to ensure experience meets best practices and maintains consistency across teams
  • Provide design support across divisions like Comms and Marketing to ensure that there is consistency across all channels
  • Support design education and present at Design Lunch and Learns

Strategy & Communication (30%)

  • Analyze business and technical requirements, partner with UX, Product, Engineering, and relevant stakeholders to develop meaningful user-focused design solutions
  • Work closely with research to derive actionable insights, facilitating informed design decisions
  • Meet with UI team members to best design and iterate features
  • Develop interactive prototypes, presentations slides, and other documents to communicate design strategies to project teams
  • Create and share comprehensive documentation to track decisions, strategies, and research efforts
  • Form and maintain solid relationships with project team members and stakeholders
  • Participate in design meetings, workshops, activities, and other ceremonies
  • Knowledge share with other designers on best practices for effectively presenting and leading in meetings

Project Management (10%)

  • Self-manage workload and obtain necessary requirements and acceptance criteria needed to complete work
  • Coordinate with UI Lead, product leads, design team, and engineers to ensure timely delivery of design artifacts
  • Help foster an environment for collaboration by partnering with business and other creative units to align our visual design approach with project goals, and the brand

You have:

  • A portfolio of your work included in your application.
  • Hands-on experience in UI/visual design or interaction design for agency or in-house teams.
  • An advanced understanding of UI design principles and best practices, as well as design systems, hierarchy, typography, aesthetics, illustration, photography, and composition.
  • Experience with designing native mobile and web-based applications and tools, with a background in designing dashboards, systems, and complex UI.
  • Demonstrable experience designing for large-scale, omni-channel applications.
  • Sharp design sensibilities, critical thinking, and an eye for detail.
  • Fluency in creating visual content for native mobile applications and responsive web platforms.
  • Experience working in agile, or iterative design and delivery environments.
  • Familiarity with user-centered research, such as usability testing, contextual inquiry, and field interviews.
  • Experience in designing for accessibility.
  • Must be proficient in all industry-standard software and applications, such as Figma, FigJam, Miro, Zeplin, Jira, Confluence, etc.

You’ll be part of the Design team, who is a close-knit group of about 40 members with a passion for empowering students. Our client is seeking a talented Senior UI/Visual Designer with an eagerness to help design a dynamic and consistent UI / visual design experience across their products and ecosystem. You will be working alongside and collaborating with designers and product owners across several agile product teams. In this role you will be integral in guiding our mission of building products that support students in planning for their future.

The target hiring compensation range for this role is the equivalent of $63 to $70 an hour. Compensation is based on several factors including, but not limited to education, relevant work experience, relevant certifications, and location.
