A Brief Overview
The Sr Compliance Specialist will support the Hospital Compliance Program with a specific focus on the institution-wide conflicts of interest program. Some of the key areas of responsibility will include; overall management and ownership of the program, review of faculty consulting agreements and education and training to staff on compliance and conflicts of interest. This role may also assist in or lead compliance investigations and manage projects to support the annual compliance plan.

What you will do

  • Manage day to day functions of the enterprise wide Conflict of Interest program, including:
  • Collection and review of all annual and project specific conflicts disclosures from administrative, medical, and research staff;
  • Providing education and training on the conflicts of interest program, including the process of disclosure and COI review, to other departments and disclosers
  • Maintaining databases of research and consulting agreement conflict reviews; assisting disclosers with questions about the COI program and providing support as needed to complete all necessary annual and research conflict disclosure forms
  • Maintaining and updating the conflict of interest intranet site; creating, maintaining, and tracking COI activity through use of databases; reporting on activities of the program.
  • Review of all proposed agreements from companies who wish to retain faculty to perform consulting type activities (faculty consulting agreements), drafting and issuing COI determination letters and management plans
  • Correspond with and negotiate with outside companies to finalize agreements protective of CHOP's interests; work closely with the Office of General Counsel and others across the enterprise as part of review and approval of these agreements.
  • Conducting and documenting conflict of interest review of certain research projects as delegated by the Conflict of Interest Committee and drafting, and issuing formal management plans and monitoring of compliance with those plans.
  • Other responsibilities may include:
  • Along with Compliance Manager, responsible for staffing and supporting the Conflict of Interest Committee, Conflict of Interest Executive Steering Committee, Spinout and Investments Business Arrangements Review Committee, and other COI related committees and groups as needed.
  • Must maintain expertise in all regulatory and external events related to conflicts of interest; participate in professional development to increase knowledge and proficiency in the conflict of interest and general compliance fields.
  • Assist in activities required to implement the annual compliance and privacy work plans and support the operation of the compliance program (e.g., development of training and education materials, conducting investigations and reviews, assisting in annual risk assessment process, assisting in preparation of reports for the ACRC and relevant management committees), and work on special projects, as needed.
  • Serves as resource for faculty, leadership, and various offices and departments throughout the institution on the conflict of interest program and broader compliance program as needed.

Education Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree Required
  • Doctorate Juris Doctorate (JD) in Paralegal Studies Preferred

Experience Qualifications

  • At least six (6) years of work experience in a professional capacity, with increasing levels of responsibility Required
  • At least ten (10) years Prior experience in a compliance or healthcare related office Preferred
  • Hospital or Research Conflict of Interest (COI) experience preferred

  • Proficiency with data collection, analytics, and reporting highly preferred
  • Eagerness to learn new areas and develop additional skills and expertise
