Role Overview:
To perform preventative maintenance and service on cars and light trucks, heavy duty trucks, aerial lift trucks, paving equipment, excavating equipment, tractors, generators, lawn movers, chain saws, weed eaters, pumps, and other motorized equipment as assigned by supervisor. Test drive non-CDL state vehicles and other motorized equipment to ensure proper operation after completion of repairs. This position requires work in and around a shop setting that can be both physical and light labor. Seasonal positions are used to assist the shop supervisor in many ways, from cleaning bathrooms to cleaning shop floors to working on equipment with mechanics if needed. Work week is Monday through Friday and is 7.5 hours per day.
Salary:
This position traditionally starts at an hourly rate of $18.00 an hour.

This position is located in INDOT's Albany Area.
A Day in the Life:
The essential elements of the job duties:
- Preform, under supervision, basic maintenance and repairs on equipment;
- Assisting other mechanics on their jobs;
- Keeping the shop clean and in an orderly manner;
- Preform oil changes and preventative maintenance;
- Repair and change tires;
- Change or repair lights on equipment;
- Pick up parts when required by supervisor;
- Inspect vehicles/equipment for damage;
- Attend appropriate training school, safety meetings, mechanic meetings or related meetings;
- Provide service and repair of vehicles and equipment on emergency basis;
- Perform other related maintenance duties as assigned by supervisor.

What You'll Need for Success:
You must have the following requirements to be considered for employment:
- High School Graduate or equivalent;
- Must possesses a valid driver's license;
- Working knowledge of appropriate safety practices associated with repair and maintenance heavy equipment, vehicles and/or motorized equipment;
- Knowledge of heavy and light duty vehicle and equipment repair;
- Skill in operating hand & power tools related to repair & maintenance of vehicles & equipment;
- Ability to carry out oral and written instructions and to complete records and reports;
- Must have ability to read, write, and communicate clearly;
- Ability to follow directions and work as a part of a team;
- Ability to perform physical activities such as lifting, dragging, stooping, standing and walking for long periods of time;
- Ability to carrying out basic functions on the computer;
- Ability to work in a multi-functional team.
Benefits of Employment with the State of Indiana:
This seasonal position does not offer benefits and is limited to 180 working days in an eleven (11) month continuous period
