A Brief Overview

Dr. Andrew Edmondson is an enthusiastic new Principal Investigator who seeks an animal research technician to assist with mouse manipulations and molecular biology experiments. The successful candidate will be organized, self-motivated and hard-working with at least 1 year of relevant mouse experience (transcardial perfusion, retroorbital bleeding, IP injections, organ/brain dissection, stereotaxic surgery), strong molecular biology skills (Western blot, qPCR, cell culture, immunohistochemistry, immunocytochemistry, flow cytometry), and be able to provide at least a 2-year commitment to the position. The research technician will support the broader operations of the research lab investigating human genetic diseases of dysfunctional glycosylation (i.e., CDG) in mouse and cellular models. Transformative discoveries in basic and translational glycobiology are anticipated.

The congenital disorders of glycosylation (CDG) are a group of rare genetic disorders that disrupt the cellular glycosylation machinery. Affected patients exhibit multiorgan dysfunction, including neurological deficits such as epilepsy and neurodevelopmental abnormalities. Despite being an essential post-translational modification, the roles of glycosylation in protein function are highly complex and remain poorly understood. The goal of the Edmondson lab is to elucidate the biological roles of glycosylation and to develop novel therapeutic approaches to treating glycosylation-related disease manifestations.
