A Brief Overview

The Liao Laboratory is seeking a research tech II for a minimum of a 2-year commitment beginning immediately. Looking for a highly motivated individual to join a research program in craniofacial development and neural crest stem cell biology that strives to make a transformative impact on craniofacial malformations. We are investigating the genetic basis of facial development and craniofacial anomalies. Our projects range from basic biology, gene variant functional testing to improve diagnosis and gene therapy approaches to cure or prevent certain craniofacial conditions.

This position is ideal for candidates interested in working at the interface of basic and translational biomedical research and is a unique opportunity for scientific growth, interacting in a highly collaborative and dynamic environment, and for training in a variety of sophisticated experimental approaches.

What you will do

  • Performs routine tests / experiments under the direction of principal investigator, or post-doc supervisor
  • Performs research using genetics, molecular biology, cell biology, gene editing
  • Records results, organizes data and maintains lab notebook in an organized manner
  • Conduct literary search as directed
  • Molecular biology, cloning, cell cultures, zebrafish maintenance, wholemount RNA in situ
  • Systematic generation and maintenance of database/inventory of all lab supplies, plasmids, bacterial stocks, lab records and mouse colony. Maintain compliance with safety, biohazard and radioactivity guidelines. Communicates and coordinates with all lab members to ensure adherence to lab protocols.
  • Training of new lab members in various techniques

Education Qualifications

  • High School Diploma / GED Required
  • Bachelor's Degree in Biology, cell biology, or related field or equivalent

Experience Qualifications

  • At least one (1) year of related classroom experience or successful completion of a technical training program (eg. Wistar, WPSI) and research laboratory experience Required
  • 1 year experience or more or prior experience with molecular biology and genetic models are preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • highly motivated and organized, prudent in time management and capable of juggling multiple tasks and competing priorities.
  • very comfortable working with zebrafish, mice, cell lines
  • Quick to learn new skills on the job and work independently.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication and problem solving/analytical skills and the ability to interact professionally with all levels of staff and with external contacts in a fast paced environment. Must be a team player.
  • Critical thinking skills and attention to detail are required
