Job Summary

The role of the Research Administrator Assistant will support research teams in the Department of Internal Medicine Nephrology.    

This role involves executing grant-based tasks for the NIH-O, Brien Kidney Center, NIH-Kidney Urology and Hematology Training Grant, and the NIH CureGN study and ancillary studies program.

Responsibilities*

  • Assist in executing pre-award tasks that are administrative in nature and gain exposure/training in the pre-award function of our research mission.
  • Execute required grant-based tasks for the O'Brien Kidney Center NIH-Kidney Urology and Hematology Training Grant, and the NIH CureGN study and ancillary studies program.
  • Execute and assist with event planning for grant-based events and for the division.
  • Assist in implementing the ancillary study program, including correspondence with investigator applicants and reviewers.
  • Assist in renewal, drafting, and writing of Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications and preparation of Data Use Agreements (DUAs). 
  • Oversight of project committees, including working and writing groups. This will include notetaking and updates to teams regarding action items and next steps.  
  • Manages relationships with trainees supported by NIH-funded grants. Schedules meetings with Principal Investigators to ensure trainee progress.   
  • Develop summary reports for grants under the supervision of the Principal Investigator and Research Administration Manager.  
  • In partnership with embedded communication team, facilitate communication with consortium members via electronic newsletters.
  • Other administrative duties as required.

Required Qualifications*

  • High school degree with some work experience. 
  • Candidate must be self-motivated and demonstrate excellent judgment in problem-solving when developing work priorities. 
  • Excellent organizational skills and a high attention to detail and accuracy are necessary.
  • Must be able to work independently and as part of a team. 
  • Adaptable to change and adopts practices to improve work processes.
  • Strong demonstrated communication skills.
  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Outlook) proficiency.
  • Ability to interact professionally with internal and external organizations (faculty and staff).

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent combination of education.
  • Some pre-award or grants-based work experience
  • Understanding of University Policies and Procedures.

Modes of Work

Positions that are eligible for hybrid or mobile/remote work mode are at the discretion of the hiring department. Work agreements are reviewed annually at a minimum and are subject to change at any time, and for any reason, throughout the course of employment. Learn more about the work modes.

Additional Information

This team is comprised of employees with a mix of hybrid and remote work plans. For this role, we hope to have this person be at least a hybrid in order to build strong relationships with the divisions faculty.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
