Job Summary

The University of Michigan Wolverine Pathways was established to increase the high school graduation rate, college acceptance and retention rates of academically promising scholars. The Program Coordinator Assistant will provide exemplary service to the Ann Arbor main office and districts of Detroit, Ypsilanti and/or Southfield by supporting the Program Coordinators, educational staff, scholars, and parents mostly virtually. In-person work will be predictable and will required for the dates listed below:

  • Required In-Person Dates:
    • Gratitude Luncheon - Thursday, August 22, 2024
    • Fall Orientation - Saturday, September 21, 2024
    • College Prep Conference - Date TBD
    • Michigan in Motion - Date TBD
    • Professional Development Conference TBD
    • Pathway Days TBD
  • Program Coordinator Assistants will work 16-24 hours per week
    • Hybrid work schedule

Compensation: $18-$22/hour

Mission Statement

The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (ODEI) at the University of Michigan leads and supports university-wide initiatives focused on the recruitment of a diverse faculty, staff, and student body, while fostering an inclusive and equitable University community. Our office also engages surrounding communities in mission-focused, mutually beneficial partnerships.


In support of this overarching effort, three units within our office - the Center for Educational Outreach (CEO), Office of Academic Multicultural Initiatives (OAMI), and Wolverine Pathways - all work closely with ODEI to further the strategic vision of the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion at the University of Michigan.

Responsibilities*

  • Support the design and development of academic and social skill workshops and materials that meet the needs of high school scholars and their families  
  • Facilitate scholar engagement in various virtual group and individual settings using platforms such as Zoom, Google Classroom and Teams 
  • Record attendance of 10th, 11th, and 12th-grade scholars and support with outreach to families for attendance tracking 
  • Support the development of a robust scholar summer program application process through team planning meetings,  data tracking, and student outreach
  • Regularly check in with scholars and families around their academics, program participation, and college applications, as well as applications for WP summer programs
  • Assist with planning and staffing Wolverine Pathways 10th, 11th, and 12th grade virtual and in-person events. 
  • Input data into computer systems including, but not limited to Microsoft Excel, Google Sheets, and database applications
  • Organize documents both physically and virtually for efficiency
  • Collaborate with other staff to troubleshoot a variety of situations, including issues with building facilities, scholars, staff, parents, and technology
  • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the program

Required Qualifications*

  • Excellent organizational skills and experience managing large data sets
  • Experience working with Excel and Google Sheets
  • Experience managing multiple projects
  • Some experience with administration/management
  • Experience with college advising and college application support
  • Experience with high school students and family outreach
  • Must believe in the transformative power of education
  • Has a keen interest in social equity and justice
  • Some experience with student or group facilitation
  • Desire to be an advocate for the development of students
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent driving record
  • Specific ability-based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; displaying tact and courtesy; maintaining confidentiality; setting priorities; being attentive to detail; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships; working as part of a team; and working with frequent interruptions.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Experience with project or organizational programming and implementation
  • Experience with student outreach
  • Ability to learn new computer skills around managing data sets
  • Be a graduate-level college student or have a degree in a relevant subject area

Additional Information

  • This temporary position opportunity is hybrid, consisting of virtual and predictable in-person work. 
  • If other in-person dates are needed, 48 hours notice will be provided
