POSITION SUMMARY

We are seeking a highly motivated Post Doctoral Fellow to join our research program on understanding the circuit mechanisms of Friedreich's ataxia. Our research ranges from fundamental molecular mechanisms and cellular biology to electrophysiology utilizing high-resolution imaging and patch clamp recording, omics studies, and FRDA mouse models. The major goal of the lab is to understand how loss of the mitochondrial protein frataxin leads to the neurological symptoms of FRDA. The experience gained during this project will broaden the skillset, scientific background, and research capabilities of the successful candidate.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The successful candidate will assume responsibility for an ongoing research project under the guidance of the principal investigator, Donald Joseph (Principal Investigator), and co-investigator, Eric Marsh (Co-investigator), and David Lynch (Partnering PI). The project is funded by an investigator-initiated grant by the Department of Defense. The successful candidate will be creative and highly motivated with a strong background in quantitative behavioral analysis and acute slice electrophysiology. Highly desirable skills include optogenetic circuit manipulation, two-photon calcium imaging, standard molecular, and brain viral delivery techniques. The prospective candidate will be expected to participate in project planning, interpretation/evaluation of data, and communication of results via seminars, lectures, poster sessions and presentations at national meetings. In addition, the candidate will acquire new technical and manuscript/grant writing skills in preparation of his or her independent research career.
