Job Summary

The University Center for the Child and the Family (UCCF) at the University of Michigan is excited to offer two full-time, 12-month Post-MSW Fellowships. This is an advanced clinical training program beginning February 3, 2025 ending February 2, 2026 with an opportunity to extend the fellowship for a second year. The mission of this Post-MSW training program is to advance practice competency, professionalism, and leadership in the field of clinical social work and is designed for a clinical social worker with a limited license (LLMSW) in the State of Michigan.

Who We Are

UCCF is a multidisciplinary, multitheoretical, and training-focused mental health clinic serving children, adolescents, and their parents and families with a senior staff of social workers and psychologists, clinical trainees in both disciplines, and a psychiatrist. UCCF is part of the Mary A. Rackham Institute (MARI), whose primary mission is to strengthen community wellness through individualized, innovative, and results-oriented mental health and language clinical services, while also educating the community about mental health, treating clients of all ages and backgrounds, and training the next generation of practitioners.

Our supervisory staff at UCCF have a range of areas of expertise including but not limited to:

  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT)
  • Parent Management Training (PMT) and Behavior therapy
  • Collaborative Problem-Solving
  • Relational and Attachment-Focused Interventions
  • Couples and Family-Based Therapy approaches
  • Mindfulness-Based Therapy Approaches
  • Anxiety and Mood Disorders
  • Working with Neurodivergent Youth, including Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD)
  • Working with LGBTQIA2S+ Youth and Families
  • Testing Services for ADHD, Learning Disabilities, and ASD
  • Clinical Supervision

Responsibilities*

Our fellowships give MSW graduates further training and experience in evidence-based intervention with children, adolescents, and their parents and families as they prepare for licensure. Fellows provide direct clinical service with supervision from expert clinicians. They also participate in a core curriculum of seminars and clinical conferences, consult with other professionals, and have the opportunity to engage in community outreach. Fellows receive training in evidence-based psychotherapy interventions, including individual, parent, family-based therapy with options for couples therapy.

Social work fellows will gain supervised experience with providing initial mental health screenings, diagnostic assessments, individual, parent, and family-based psychotherapy (with options for couples therapy), and risk assessment and management. Fully licensed clinical social workers will primarily supervise social work fellows, with additional supervision provided by licensed psychologists. The fellow will have opportunities to supervise social work students, engage in clinical teaching as a part of a training plan, and develop case conceptualizations, treatment plans and hone clinical intervention skills, which tailor evidence-based clinical practice to individuals based on unique identities, histories, and experiences of the world. Issues of diversity, equity, and inclusion and professional development are infused throughout the fellowship experience.

Required Qualifications*

UCCF is interested in applicants who have direct clinical experience using evidence-based interventions, in person and via telehealth, with children and families across the developmental spectrum and from diverse backgrounds.

Eligible applicants must have satisfactorily completed an accredited Social Work Master's Program, hold a Limited License in Social Work in the State of Michigan (LLMSW).
