Shell has created several new career opportunities within our newest state of the art Shell Polymers facility in Monaca, Pennsylvania, and we are seeking your expertise to further build on our Polyethylene capabilities within our team.

One of these newly created opportunities is a Polyethylene Inst Analyzer Specialist (also known as Instruments Analyzer Specialist, Polyethylene Quality internally), which will provide you with an opportunity make a major contribution to operational excellence at a brand new, world-scale Polyethylene facility.

This role is part of the Process Automation Control & Optimization (PACO) Team within the Asset's Technology Department, based in Monaca, Pennsylvania. This team member will collaborate closely with the Instrument and Analyzer Team Lead and other analyzer specialists, sharing the responsibility for ensuring the technical reliability of the plant's process analyzers.

Additionally, this individual will concentrate on providing daily second-level maintenance technical support for complex situational and reliability issues within the Polyethylene Unit. They will collaborate closely with the Analyzer Maintenance Team Lead (AMTL) to ensure effective and cost-efficient analyzer maintenance.

More about our Facility:

In 2022, Shell completed construction of its 386-acre petrochemical complex in Potter Township, Beaver County - approximately 30 miles northwest of Pittsburgh. The feat was nearly a decade in the making, with more than four years of construction activity involving approximately 9,500 workers at peak construction.

The plant, Shell Polymers Monaca, will produce an estimated 1.6 million tons of polyethylene pellets used by Shell's customers to create products that we see and use every day including - common household goods; consumer and food packaging; as well as industrial and utility products. Three polyethylene units will have a combined annual production of approximately 1.6 million metric tons (3.5 billion pounds).

Accountabilities:

  • Provide technical assurance in the areas of Analyzer and Quality Measuring Instruments (QMI) throughout the commissioning and start-up and run-and-maintain phases

  • Act as a direct liaison between the technical and maintenance teams, taking a leading role in troubleshooting, identifying the root cause of complex process analyzer issues, and developing technically sound solution

  • Lead the development and implementation of the Management of Change process for reliability-related enhancements, such as improvements to the sample conditioning system, with the approval of the Analyzer/Instrument Team Lead

  • Support and assist in maintaining the Preventative Maintenance (PM) library and detailed PM procedures for analyzers/QMIs, implement programs to ensure exceptional analyzer equipment reliability, and assure compliance with the approved Analytical Equipment list, company standards, and other technical requirements

  • Support the implementation of the site analyzer strategy

  • Participate in incident investigations related to analyzers

  • Contribute directly to finding root cause and resolution of analyzer bad actors

  • Act as mentor and second level support to analyzer maintenance technicians

  • Champion the process of sharing analyzer knowledge not only at the local level but across Shell

  • Ensure Shell is meeting existing as well as changing requirements from Regulatory and recognized Governing Industry Standards Association/Bodies

  • Assist the Analyzer Maintenance Team Lead to develop, maintain and coordinate a training plan for analyzer technicians and assist with coordination of on-site or off-site training by others

  • Recommend equipment upgrades and replacements when situations warrant it, such as high cost of maintainability, obsolescence, loss of vendor support, more effective technological breakthroughs

  • Participate in Factory Acceptance Tests & Site Acceptance Tests

  • Support in the development and implementation of the Analyzer Turnaround Procedures

  • Develop training material for Analyzers/QMI areas

  • Assist with maintaining the central repository for analyzers with technical manuals, system drawings, software, datasheets

What we need from you

  • Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer

  • Bachelor's degree in chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, Instrument Engineering or another related field with demonstrated knowledge and practical work experience or an associate degree in Instrumentation or equivalent in chemical, Electrical or Mechanical engineering

  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in Polyethylene Manufacturing Facilities supporting commissioning, operating and maintenance of sample conditioning systems and associated process analyzers including but not limited to GCs, pH, conductivity, Tunable Diode Laser, TOC, turbidity, and of commissioning, operating and maintenance of pellet analyzers

  • Extensive experience with Pellet Analyzers, Process Analyzers (including Gas Chromatographs), dust detection analyzers, and familiarity with statistical quality control techniques

  • Experience in Analyzer Maintenance & Data Acquisition Systems (AMADAS) from Krohne or other suppliers is a plus

  • Experience in a manufacturing or technical support environment

  • Experience in olefins plants and/or in the polymer plants such as Polyethylene or Polypropylene is a plus

  • Experience in project support and execution

The base salary range for this position is $122,000 - $182,000 per year.  Individual pay will be based on various factors, such as relevant work experience, education, certifications, skill level, seniority, and internal equity.

For regular full-time or regular part-time employees of the Company (participating companies as listed in the Summary Plan Description), insurance coverage options include medical, dental, vision coverage, life Insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs. Employees also participate in a company pension plan and a 401(k) plan. Paid leave includes up to 6 weeks of paid vacation time, up to 11 paid holidays, and parental leave offering 16 weeks of paid leave to birthing mothers, and 8 weeks of paid leave for non-birthing parents.

Additionally, employees are eligible for disability leave for up to 52 weeks at 100% or 50% of base pay. Shell also offers other compensation such financial reimbursement for adoption, wellness, education, and personal learning expenses, and some roles are eligible for discretionary long-term incentives. For interns, eligible benefits include medical, dental, and vision coverage, life insurance, Business Travel Accident Insurance, and Occupational Accidental Death Benefit programs; participation in a 401(k) plan; and paid leave for up to 11 paid holidays.
