Cabot has an exciting opportunity for a Plant Engineer who will provide technical support and drive continuous improvements in manufacturing capability, capacity, and productivity at the site to ensure safe and optimal process utilization. Implements capital and expense projects within scope, cost, time, and safety standards. Work may focus on particular products/line/units, plant process/equipment Reliability and/or Process Safety Management. The Plant Engineer will work on-site at the Tuscola, IL plant.

How You Will Make an Impact

In this role, your primary duty is to identify, recommend and implement improvements in plant performance to optimize product volume, yields and quality. This role requires a safety mind-set, self-motivated person with a positive attitude, a ton of good energy, effective time management, organization, and recordkeeping skills. A successful candidate will be someone who can: 

  • Identify/Develop process improvements to lower off quality (OQ), drive cost down, increase productivity. 
  • Provide technical advice and support to resolve unusual problems. Uses statistical techniques to improve process capability; uses failure analysis methodology and upgrades and/or implement process improvements. 
  • Oversees plant mechanical integrity program by investigating equipment problems and eliminating recurrence of failures that will improve plant performance and reliability. Leads the review of preventive maintenance plans to ensure optimum scheduling. Predictive Maintenance Programs to monitor the condition of the plant and equipment to maximize safety and reliability and reduce downtime. Oversees maintenance projects and monitors progress of external maintenance contractors.
  • Assist in the design, procurement, and installation of new equipment. Develop plant-wide standard operating procedures for process and equipment operation. Leads and implements new product sand process runs and prepare relevant documentation. Ensures all process and procedure changes are in line with Management of Change principles.
  • Conducts “end-of-life” assessments making recommendations for equipment repairs and replacements. Assists with equipment repairs of stationary and rotating equipment by working with original equipment manufacturers, after-market suppliers, and outside repair shops.
  • Leads production planning and execution of tolled product materials including, monitoring supply/demand status, raw material inventory/ordering, and coordinating final product receipt and required product finishing steps. Monitors and manages toll products and providers for efficiency, cost effectiveness, and quality of product delivered.
  • May serve as Process Safety Management (PSM) custodian at the plant in coordination with regional PSM representative in the evaluation of manufacturing process-related risks and incidents. May participate in Process Hazards Analysis (PHA) for key production/capital projects. Ensures all product and process changes are implemented in line with appropriate Management of Change (MOC) principles. May provide training as required to manufacturing personnel in relevant manufacturing processes.
  • Monitors maintenance projects and progress, external contractors in accordance with all site regulations and standards.
  • Supports efforts to implement and maintain the Responsible Care® Management System in line with the requirements of the RC14001® technical specification, as applicable to the site/region.

What You Will Bring to Cabot

  • Bachelor/University degree in a relevant Engineering discipline.
  • Knowledge of Chemical Manufacturing; process and product technology; engineering principles; mechanical and instrumentation systems; calibration and maintenance. 
  • Knowledge of Root Cause Failure Analysis (RCFA) methodology and reliability analysis tools. 
  • Knowledge in areas such as confined space entry, lockout / tag-out, hot-work permitting, etc. 
  • Analytical and diagnostic skills. 
  • Project management skills.
