Purpose:
The Paralegal will provide a range of support and administration to the company’s lawyers. This position will be responsible for assisting with creation, implementation and maintenance of legal monitoring and oversight relating to the company’s documents, policies, and operations. The position will collaborate with colleagues in the legal department, as well as with various professionals throughout the business.Accountabilities:
Review, investigate, analyze, and/or facilitate responses to various legal inquiries and referrals from Operations, Sales, Product development and product administration personnel.
Create and maintain state regulatory compilations.
Assist with raised contract owner matters and address issues specific to the administration of annuity products and other matters as assigned.
Produce accurate, high quality work product with the ability to closely handle multiple matters and process a high volume of work in a timely and accurate manner with a high attention to detail.
Summarize facts and laws for review by supervising paralegal, attorneys, Compliance department, or other law enforcement or regulatory agencies.
Respond to and work closely with business unit representatives in Operations, Sales and Compliance with respect to legal issues and situations impacting the annuities business, as well as other strategic and cross-business initiatives impacting the broader enterprise, coordinating with attorneys as needed.
Assist with implementation of identified process improvements and methodologies.
Perform legal research and analysis of statutory, regulatory, contractual and general business matters.
Qualifications and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree, associate degree, paralegal certification or equivalent educational or employment experience. Military experience will be considered in lieu of formal degree.
3+years of legal experience required, with experience in a corporate or private practice environment preferred.
Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Proficiency with Company technology, including software and databases.
Proven legal research and analytical skills with the ability to make decision based upon legal research required.
Demonstrated strong work ethic with attention to detail, along with a high degree of professional ethics and integrity.
Advanced organizational skills, with ability to multi-task, effectively prioritize, and manage competing assignments.
Ability to establish, develop and manage effective working relationships at all levels of the organization, act as a liaison with and communicate complex legal matters to various business partners.
