Job Summary:
Capable of accomplishing the installation, maintenance, and repair of ship's propulsion and auxiliary systems including, but not limited to Steam, Gas Turbine, and Diesel propulsion systems, rudders and steering gear, elevators, and deck equipment without Supervision. Capable of accomplishing the installation repair, and maintenance of ship's fluid systems which include pumps, compressors, purifiers, heat exchangers, actuators and valves without Supervision. Capable of accomplishing the testing of equipment to ensure systems meet 4E specifications, references and drawings without Supervision. Capable of accomplishing the installation and testing of various shop equipment. Performs other related tasks as assigned, some of which may become essential to the position.
- Demonstrate knowledge of piping systems (e.g. piping system connections, connection seals, valves, general components, etc.) in accordance with the Naval Standard Technical Manual (NSTM).
- Demonstrate general knowledge of machinery (e.g. lube oil, high pressure and low pressure, salt water, HVAC, CHT, steering, deck equipment, etc.) in accordance with the Naval Standard Technical Manual (NSTM).
- Demonstrate knowledge of thermodynamics.
- Demonstrate knowledge of torque as it relates to a mechanical power train.
- Demonstrate knowledge of fluid flow (both pump and valve).
- Demonstrate knowledge of hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
- Demonstrate knowledge of internal combustion engines.
- Demonstrate knowledge of gas turbines.
- Demonstrate knowledge of steam power.
- Demonstrate knowledge of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC).
- Demonstrate the consistent ability to submit a Condition(s) Found Report without Supervision.
- Demonstrate the consistent ability to accomplish a work item in accordance with applicable 4E Specifications, References and Drawings without Supervision.
- Demonstrate the ability to source material in accordance with applicable 4E Specifications, References and Drawings without Supervision.
- Demonstrate the consistent ability to overhaul Level I equipment for a designated trade in accordance with the Outside Machinist Personnel Qualification Standard (PQS).
- Demonstrate the consistent ability to accomplish precision alignments (both laser and reverse dial method) in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Items.
- Demonstrate the consistent ability to overhaul Level II equipment for a designated trade in accordance with the Outside Machinist Personnel Qualification Standard (PQS).
- Complete a Niton analyzer qualification and demonstrate the ability to use a Niton analyzer without Supervision.
- Complete the Belzona repair qualification and demonstrate the consistent ability to utilize Belzona without Supervision.
- Demonstrate the consistent ability to overhaul Level III equipment for a designated trade in accordance with the Outside Machinist Personnel Qualification Standard (PQS).
- Other duties as may be assigned.
