As a member of the Global Operations Equipment group, The Manufacturing Engineer demonstrates leadership in communicating business goals, programs, and processes for an area or business segment. In this role you will utilize your experience or expertise to solve problems by working with teams to resolve manufacturing and quality problems related to methods, processes, tooling, equipment, and design.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university or college with at least 3 years of experience in a manufacturing environment

  • Strong skills in print reading, wire schematic reading, and engineering specifications.

  • Experience with BOM (PLM) tools.

  • Preference will be given to applicants with Engineering experience in a dynamic manufacturing environment, a bachelor’s or Advanced Degree in Engineering or Applied Science highly desired.

  • Understanding of finance and business drivers, able to communicate engineering changes on long term plans.

  • Working knowledge of locomotive manufacturing: fabrication, coatings, assembly, electrical, and test procedures.

  • Background in mechanical systems and electrical troubleshooting

  • Experience with 3D model/CAD software

  • Managerial level presentation skills must be able to sell ideas and influence others.

  • Strong oral and written communication skills, ability to communicate across levels and within a complex matrix.

  • Willingness to interact with customers and visitors to explain the manufacturing procedures.

  • Self-driven, outgoing, energetic, passionate, and positive attitude about change.

  • Strategic and clear thinker that solves and prevents problems.

  • Innovative thinker, able to come with new ideas and willing to take risks to creatively solve issues.

  • Life-long learner who will remain coachable – passion around continuous and technology improvements.

What will your typical day look like?

  • Prepare the shop for model changes, new models, and mixed model production. Execute plans in such a way that no productivity or efficiency is lost during model changes.

  • Collaborate with the NPI and Lean teams, as well as design engineering, sourcing, vendors, and operations to develop locomotive processes using 3D models, drawings, difference reports, and operator load charts.

  • Lead and develop projects that will reduce safety risk across the operations and drive improvements on the EHS front.

  • Manage high impact process and quality improvement projects yielding significant reduction in defects and increased productivity in the work group / department.

  • Drive process improvement / cycle reduction initiatives, reduce overall costs, promote standardization, improve Time on Product, and increase capacity.

  • Develop and maintain manufacturing methods and create process routings and manufacturing instructions. Provide supporting documentation to enhance training for new team members and test technicians.

  • Design and build / procure necessary tooling and finishing within budgets.

  • Support equipment upgrades and conduct cost / benefit analysis for process changes.

  • Collaborate with other salary staff on the test support team to cover responsibilities and share in equal workload distribution.

What about the physical demands of the job?

  • Exposure to shop floor requires wearing PPE

  • Walking, climbing, stooping, stooping, bending, lifting is all part of the hands-on learning process

  • This position is an onsite role.

You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The salary range for this role is between

$67,400.00-$96,000.00

The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. More information on offered benefits, which include health, welfare, and retirement, are available at mywabtecbenefits.com. Other benefit offerings for this role may include an annual bonus, if eligible.
