Position Summary:

Toyota Material Handling is an ISO 14001 and 9001-2008 certified forklift manufacturing facility in Columbus, IN. We are current seeking a candidate to join Engineering team in our New Product Development Group.

Our New Product Development Group is committed to helping our customers be successful, whether it be by developing efficient, safe and state-of-the-art material handling equipment or by creating next generation fleet management systems. The New Product Development department is a fast-paced department that is growing quickly, but is still committed to upholding Toyota's Core Values, putting the customer first, and always striving to continuously improve.

This position will be responsible for planning and implementing the testing of existing and new OEM forklifts and components. Position requires technical oriented individual with the strong communication and leadership skills to communicate, plan and document the activities of a fast-paced testing program.

The ideal candidate that would fit best in this position is dynamic, highly adaptable, hardworking, detail orientated, open-minded to opinions, and driven to succeed. Being able to work with large groups, engagement in team's daily activity and the ability to always put the customer's needs first are essential for the candidate in this role.

Responsibilities/Duties:

  • Study the next generation electrical systems, battery systems and telematics systems for heavy equipment projects.
  • Participate in TMH’s FMEA process and interpret test requirements from design teams to develop test specifications and test plan
  • Responsible for planning and developing the test strategy along with the characterization and determination of new tests to be performed.
  • Develop new test procedures as required for the telematics and electrical systems
  • Draft the test plans and meet with design engineers, development engineers and quality team members to confirm the details of the test plan.
  • Schedule tests to meet project milestones while respecting manpower and resource availability.
  • Plan and specify new equipment required for telematics testing, component and system level electrical testing.
  • Acquire and process test data, analyze the results and provide engineering interpretations.
  • Analyze and countermeasure testing issues as they arise.
  • Review test reports completed by test technicians or other test engineers.
  • Update project related data as required in applicable systems and ensure timely reporting and response to stakeholders.
  • Prepare documentation related to testing for reporting in meetings and design reviews.
  • Prepare and implement improvements to processes and procedures related to testing, planning, and reporting.

Education & Experience:

  • BS in Electrical Engineering or related field of study. MS Preferred
  • Prefer 2+ years of experience in test engineering roles in a major OEM. System level test experience preferred.
  • Experience with testing controllers, motor drivers or similar electro-mechanical components is highly preferred.
  • Experience in system level, component level, environmental testing and board level electrical test characterization is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of control systems and electrical subsystems. Experience with CANBus protocols and testing.
  • Possess the technical ability to read, evaluate, understand, and communicate data from prints and technical standard documents.
  • Understanding of Design of Experiments and Accelerated Life Testing principles.
  • Ability to participate and take initiatives to drive process improvements activities.
  • Experienced in constructing complex project schedules involving timelines, manpower and resources.
  • Understanding of product life cycles, and application of relevant test methodologies.
  • Experience with sensor technologies.
  • Experience with n-Code or other data processing software.
  • Excellent team player with strong communication skills both written and verbal.
  • Strong project management experience and leadership skills.
  • Ability to travel (<10%) to support testing, customer, or supplier visits.
