Job Summary

The University of Michigan Department of Pediatrics is seeking an experienced clinician-scholar to serve as the Director of the Division of Pediatric Neurology. The Director will lead a growing division to excel in the tripartite mission of clinical care, research, and education.

The Division currently has 26 faculty members, six nurse practionners, four nurses, and three dieticians. Other staff members include 25 EEG technicians, 5 administrators, 2.5 clinical coordinators, and 5 research team members.

Faculty evaluate over 1,400 in-patients in consultation and admit 500 patients to the Pediatric Epilepsy service annually.  In the past year, there were about 9,240 out-patient visits of which about a third were video visits.  There are multiple sub-specialty clinics, providing specialized care for: epilepsy, neuromuscular disorders, neuro-oncology, neuroimmunology, autism, sleep disorders, neurometabolic diseases, and pre-natal neurological disorders.

Major research themes of faculty in the division include: early life epilepsy, pathogenesis and treatment of genetic epilepsies, and neuroprotection. Members of the faculty are currently principal investigators on 2 NIH grants and co-investigators on 2 NIH awards. Other faculty members receive grant funding from the State of Michigan to support treatment programs for spinal muscular atrophy and cerebral adrenoleukodystrophy. Additionally, several faculty members receive support to participate in industry- and foundation- funded research.

Faculty are strongly committed to the education of pediatric and adult neurology residents, epilepsy fellows, medical students, other physicians, and other health care professionals. There are currently 15 Pediatric Neurology residents and Adult Neurology residents also rotate through the division.

The ideal Division Director candidate will have a robust understanding of pediatric neurology operations, a good track record of grant funding and knowledge of the broad scope of neurology research, and be able to effectively lead, mentor, and expand the clinical, research, and education programs of the division.

Department of Pediatrics and C.S. Mott Children's Hospital 

The Department of Pediatrics includes 17 clinical divisions and over 300 faculty members.  C.S. Mott Children's Hospital, a 1.1 million square foot, 12 story, 348-bed facility that opened in 2011, is located on the University of Michigan medical campus.  Mott is honored to be the #1 children's hospital in Michigan and ranked in the top 3 in the Midwest by U.S. News and World Report.    This state-of-the-art facility includes the on-site Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital birthing center, a Level 1 Children's Surgery Center, and a Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center.

Required Qualifications*

Requirements include an MD, DO, or foreign equivalent degree, eligibility for medical licensure in the State of Michigan, and certification by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology, Neurology with Special Qualification in Child Neurology. Evidence of clinical competence and competence in clinical and didactic teaching is expected
