Job Summary  

Position: Data Analyst, GS-7/9/11/12/13.  Division: Various.  Location: Various. Current hiring for this position is limited to the following divisions: Anchorage; Cincinnati*; Clarksburg; Huntsville; Mobile; Pittsburgh; Salt Lake City; San Antonio; San Juan; Tampa.  *Applicants interested in Cincinnati need to select Deer Park as their location.

Working Hours: Varies based on operational need.

Salary: The following are base salaries only.  If selected, your pay will depend upon your chosen work location.

GS-7: $41,966.00 - $54,557.00

GS-9: $51,332.00 - $66,731.00

GS-11: $62,107.00 - $80,737.00

GS-12: $74,441.00 - $96,770.00

GS-13: $88,520.00 - $115,079.00

Full Performance level: GS-13.  Duration: Full Time/Permanent

Additional selections may be made from this announcement to fill positions within the same division when the position includes substantially the same duties, responsibilities, and qualifications.

Available Incentives:  Due to the high demand for skilled candidates to fill these positions across the FBI, selectees may be eligible for a recruitment bonus.  Prior to receiving a recruitment bonus, the selectee must sign a written agreement, which obligates working a specific period of time at the FBI. 

Key Requirements.  Must be a U.S. citizen.  Must be able to obtain a Top Secret-SCI clearance.

Major Duties:

GS-7: 

  • Assist in the planning, development and administration of data for the utilization, storage, cleaning, conditioning, and retrieval of data.
  • Assist in the design and completion of analytics for data projects involving basic and varied subject matter.
  • Analyze data collection gaps and recommend modifications for collection methods with supervision and guidance.
  • Employ programming languages at a basic level, to normalize, manipulate, and enrich datasets, which includes composing scripts to automate recurring/continuous manual data processes, affecting multiple squads and/or programs.
  • Utilize various methodologies with guidance and instruction to evaluate data, determine relevant patterns, and identify boundaries for data application in qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Present simple visualizations and data analysis results and findings to executive management and external audiences.

GS-9: In addition to the above, the selectee will: 

  • Plan, develop and administer the utilization, storage, cleaning, conditioning and retrieval of data for basic and straightforward projects.
  • Design and complete analytics for basic data projects involving broad and varied subject matter.
  • Utilize various methodologies with guidance to evaluate data, determine relevant patterns, and identify boundaries for data application in qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Develop and present visualizations and data analysis results and findings to executive management and external audiences.

GS-11:  In addition to the above, the selectee will: 

  • Plan, develop, and administer the utilization, storage, cleaning, conditioning, and retrieval of data for projects ranging from basic to intermediate complexity.
  • Design and complete analytics for complex data projects involving broad and varied subject matter.
  • Analyze data collection gaps and recommend modifications for collection methods.
  • Utilize various methodologies to evaluate data, determine relevant patterns, and identify boundaries for application of data in qualitative and quantitative analysis.
  • Develop and present a wide range of visualizations and data analysis results and findings to executive management and external audiences.

GS-12:  In addition to the above, the selectee will: 

  • Plan, develop, and administer the utilization, storage, cleaning, conditioning, and retrieval of data for complex projects.
  • Design and complete analytics with expertise and precision, for complex data projects involving broad and varied subject matter.
  • Employ programming languages at an expert level, to normalize, manipulate, and enrich datasets, which includes composing scripts to automate recurring/continuous manual data processes, affecting multiple squads and/or programs.

GS-13: In addition to the above, the selectee will: 

  • Lead and coordinate the planning, development, and administration of data for the utilization, storage, cleaning, conditioning, and retrieval of data for complex projects.
  • Lead and coordinate the design and development of analytics for complex data projects involving broad and varied subject matter.
  • Analyze data collection gaps and recommend modifications for collection methods, serving in an advisory capacity at times.
  • Develop and present a wide range of complex visualizations and data analysis results and findings to executive management and external audiences.

Qualifications and Evaluations

GS-7: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-5 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

  • Collected information for use in formal presentations.
  • Provided oral and written communication related to data analysis
  • Assisted in reading, interpreting, modifying, and executing basic scripts.

GS-9:  Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-7 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

In addition to the above, the selectee:

  • Assisted in the preparation of briefings and presentations, which may include visualization of data into tables, charts, diagrams, or other graphics.
  • Assisted in determining customer needs regarding requirements and automation.
  • Assisted in data preprocessing, including, data cleansing, deduplication (eliminating duplicate copies of repeating data), and normalization.
  • Assessed data quality and validity, before altering datasets or performing data analysis.
  • Read, interpreted, modified and executed basic scripts.

GS-11: Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-9 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

In addition to the above, the selectee:

  • Assisted in the design of data analytics and data warehousing systems.
  • Identified and communicated trends and patterns to identify information gaps and anomalies from various sources.
  • Wrote basic scripts to normalize, manipulate and enrich datasets.
  • Stored and retrieved information, applied sorting theories, and conducted data sampling.
  • Participated in the planning and preparation of briefings and presentations, which may include visualization of data into tables, charts, diagrams, or other graphics.
  • Collected, organized, analyzed and disseminated information.

GS-12:  Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

In addition to the above, the selectee:

  • Determined customer needs regarding requirements and automation.
  • Planned, prepared, and presented briefings and presentations, which may include visualization of data into tables, charts, diagrams, or other graphics.
  • Participated in the design of data analytics and data warehousing systems.
  • Collected, organized, analyzed, and disseminated information.
  • Designed, wrote and executed scripts to automate recurring or continuous manual data processes.
  • Acquired, evaluated and prepared data for modeling and simulations.

GS-13:  Applicant must possess at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level. SE is defined as follows:

In addition to the above, the selectee:

  • Retrieved, analyzed, and provided recommendations on data usage from various sources.
  • Provided recommendations on the modification and implementation of data collection methods including the integration of new technologies (e.g., machine learning, artificial intelligence).
  • Developed specialized plans to obtain desired information from available datasets; assessing the information available and identifying appropriate technologies and methodologies to apply.
  • Utilized scripting language to automate manual data processes; developing and customizing scripts to address unique scenarios.
  • Communicated with customers to establish data needs, and utilized presentations, visualizations, charts, diagrams, to illustrate data analysis results.

Education: All degrees must be from an accredited college or university. Degrees must be in one of the following fields: computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management OR a degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

Education may be substituted for specialized experience as follows:

GS-7: Applicant must have a bachelor’s degree with superior academic achievement or one (1) full year of graduate level education.  Superior academic achievement is the completion of all the requirements of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university, which is based on (1) class standing, (2) grade-point average of 3.0 or higher as recorded on an official transcript, or as based on courses completed during the final two years of the curriculum, or (3) honor society membership.

GS-9: Applicant must have a master’s or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related.

GS-11: Applicant must have a Ph.D. OR equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree OR LL.M., if related.
