The Position on our Team:

A Cyber Security Engineer I is a technical position in the field of cyber security.  The engineer will assist in monitoring and securing our computer networks and systems, working closely with senior engineers to identify and mitigate potential security threats.  The engineer will collaborate with various departments to ensure that security best practices are integrated into all aspects of our operations. They will also stay abreast of the latest cyber security trends and emerging threats, continuously enhancing your knowledge and skills.  They will also monitor and respond to cyber security incidents and will work to identify vulnerabilities and risks within the firm’s systems and develop mitigation plans.

Expectations & Qualifications:

  1. Education and Experience: The Cyber Security Engineer I at Macerich should have a strong background in security operations center (SOC) processes, and cyber security related technology. They should have between 3 – 15 years’ experience as a cyber security analyst, SOC analyst or related experience. A bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology or related field is preferred.
  2.   3. Task Management and Prioritization: Demonstrates the ability to effectively manage and switch between competing tasks, aligning individual efforts with the team's priorities. Maintains focus and ensures timely progress without sacrificing quality. Keeps managers and co-workers apprised of task status, collaborating, and communicating transparently where appropriate.
  4. Communication: Demonstrates effective communication skills essential for this role; emphasizes collaboration and clear dialogue within the team and with other colleagues; engages proactively with peers, department members, and any relevant stakeholders to ensure alignment and understanding; fosters a cooperative and transparent work environment; committed to providing timely responses to inquiries and requests, recognizing the importance of prompt and attentive communication in achieving team goals.
  5. Compliance, Risk Management, and Cybersecurity: Adheres to all company and department guidelines and operational processes, including incident management, change management, and knowledge management protocols; possesses basic knowledge of risk management practices and maintains vigilant adherence to cyber and privacy requirements; ensures the integrity, confidentiality, and availability of information in alignment with organizational standards and regulatory mandates.
  6. Technical Skills: Ability to identify and spotlight vulnerabilities in on-premises and remote systems and networks. Understands network and server security principles and technologies, including firewalls, VPNs, intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), operating systems, and access control lists (ACLs).
  7. Troubleshooting Skills: Strong problem-solving abilities to identify and resolve technology issues efficiently. The capacity to perform root cause analysis for complex infrastructure and cybersecurity problems.
  8. Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborating with other IT professionals and departments to achieve common goals. Cultivate and maintain professional, healthy working relationships with resources, including internal team members and external contractors/vendors.
  9. Incident Response: Ability to promptly respond and lead the response to security incidents with detailed and descriptive updates, follow operational procedures accurately and provide detailed post-event analyses.
  10. Cybersecurity Domain Knowledge: Has knowledge in the cyber security landscape and understands cyber threats, cyber mitigation, and cyber best practices to secure the companies infrastructure and data. Knowledge of the Center for Internet Security (CIS) controls.  Can assist with risk assessments, business impact analysis and other related assessment.
  11. Continuous Learning: Continuous growth and education on changes in the technology landscape and updates to vendor technology stacks. A commitment to staying updated with the latest cyber security technologies, trends, and best practices through self-study and ongoing training.
  12. Vendor Management: Able to work with third party vendors, providing guidance for installations, follow up on issues and general vendor management as necessary for project work.
  13. Documentation: Create clear, concise, and complete documents when applicable for Macerich solutions, including standards, configuration, processes, and procedure documents, as well as incidents.

Responsibilities:

  • Assists with security assessments of new and existing systems.
  • Leads vulnerability management initiatives including scans, reports, meetings, reporting and coordination with infrastructure team.
  • Develop and maintain cyber security policy, process, and procedure documents.
  • Review, investigate, and respond to real-time alerts within the environment.
  • Prepare reports on security incidents.
  • Collaborate with engineers and technology owners to design and deploy technology that is compliant with the firm’s security policies.
  • Manage systems and tools owned by the information security team such as vulnerability detection and endpoint security platforms.
  • Develop audit procedures and work with other teams to ensure policy compliance.
  • Monitor online security-related resources for new and emerging cyber threats.
  • Develop, install, and alter systems to align with security best practices.
  • Identify network and system vulnerabilities through daily administrative tasks.
  • Assists with establishing and enforcing cyber security policies, aligning with legal and regulatory requirements.
  • All other duties as assigned.
