A Brief Overview

Assume responsibility for an on-going, innovative research project as a Postdoctoral Fellow at CHOP. Our postdoc experience will broaden your skillset, scientific background, and research capabilities. CHOP Research Institute Center for Craniofacial Innovation, https://www.chopcranio.org Department of Surgery, Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery has a postdoctoral position in comparative functional genomics for experienced computational biologist is available in the Cotney Lab at the Center for Craniofacial Innovation at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Research Institute in affiliation with the Division of Plastic Surgery.

Our laboratory is applying functional genomics techniques (ChIP-Seq, RNA-Seq, ChIA-PET, Hi-C, etc) to identify novel gene regulatory elements in early mammalian embryonic development. We seek to understand the genetic basis of the evolution of the human form and developmental disorders by integrating multiple types of functional genomics data from a variety of tissues and species.

Job Requirements

  • The candidate should have PhD or an MD/PhD in genetics, bioinformatics, computational biology, or related field.
  • Strong computational background utilizing Python.
  • Excellent ability to work well in a team and teaching colleagues is mandatory.
  • Outstanding oral and written communication skills are necessary.

Preferred Experience and skills:

  • Additional experience in scripting languages such as Rust, Awk, Perl, etc.
  • Statistical packages such as R or Matlab.
  • Next-generation sequencing data such as ChIP-Seq, RNA-Seq, etc.
  • Statistical genetics including GWAS and 1000 Genomes data sets.
  • Comparative genomics such as multi-species alignments and conservation analysis.
  • Visualization of genomic data including Circos, IGV, UCSC Genome browser.
  • Analysis of single-cell genomics data (scRNA, scATAC, multiomics, etc).

Responsibilities

  • Participate in project planning, recording, and evaluation of data.

  • Conduct independent scholarly research, developing new methods and protocols under the guidance of a mentor (principal investigator).

  • Acquire technical, lab management, and grant writing skills.

  • Participate in seminars, lectures, poster sessions, national presentations, and professional workshops.

  • Supervise junior lab members.

  • Assist with other research projects as needed.
