Job Summary

The Mary H. Weiser Food Allergy Center is seeking a clinical research technician/assistant for an innovative and large prospective cohort study at the University of Michigan. Join our dynamic interdisciplinary team of experts in Allergy, Immunology, Epidemiology, Obstetrics, and Genetics as we investigate the pathogenesis of food allergy and other allergic conditions.
As a clinical research technician/assistant for M-SIBS, a birth cohort examining the development of food allergies, you will play a key role in the study's early implementation by helping with study participant recruitment, data and biospecimen collection, and the family experience. We are looking for a candidate who can autonomously recruit participants, collect biospecimens and perform home visits. The candidate will help to ensure compliance with pre-established work scope responsibilities with a focus on completion of duties within established periods to meet study objectives while utilizing study protocol standards. This individual will also collaborate with other study coordinators within a large team-based science initiative with the goal of professional growth as the study progresses. This job is a 100% (40 hours/week) effort.

This position may independently provide study coordination for simple and moderately complex clinical research studies.  As a member of a coordination team, this position may help support a portfolio of projects with varying levels of complexity. Mastery of all job duties from the CRC-Assistant position on the Michigan Michigan Medicine CRC Career Ladder is required.

Responsibilities*

RESEARCH TASKS (75%) INCLUDE

  • Acting as a study coordinator while recruiting participants, determining eligibility, consenting, and scheduling follow up as needed
  • Preparing recruitment materials
  • Assisting with data entry related to study visits.
  • Tracking and maintaining data collection efforts with participant research visits
  • Processing data using software including RedCap, LabVantage, MiChart (Epic)
  • Collecting biospecimen samples from participants at Michigan Blood Draw Stations, while they are admitted at Von Voigtlander Women's Hospital, and at home. This will require some work during nights and weekends.
  • Working with lab staff to ensure biospecimens are handled appropriately and safely.
  • Managing training of undergraduate research assistants

ADMINISTRATIVE TASKS (25%) INCLUDE

  • Managing purchase of recruitment supplies, coordinating purchases with research project manager and other administrative staff as needed
  • Maintaining stock for biospecimen collection
  • Collaborating with coordinator to purchase supplies and to maintain stock for oral food challenges

Required Qualifications*

  • Associate degree in Health Science or an equivalent combination of related education and experience is necessary. 
  • Minimum 1 year of directly related experience in clinical research and clinical trials is necessary. (Please review SoCRA's Definition of a Clinical Research Professional for qualifying experience prior to applying) or 
    • An advanced degree in a health-related areas such as: Health Sciences, Behavioral Sciences, Public Health, Health Care Administration, Clinical Research Administration, Social Work, Psychology, Epidemiology, Foreign MD. or
    • Minimum 3 years of human subject experience (clinical, lab or health regulations) such as related patient care, related community health and wellness, related clinical information, and research.  
  • Knowledge of basic MS Office Suite applications and Google applications
  • Ability to move equipment up to 25 lbs
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Proven success with contributing to a positive workplace culture
  • Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license

For Underfill Clinical Research Assistant Requirements: 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Knowledge of basic MS Office Suite applications and Google applications
  • Ability to move equipment up to 25 lbs
  • Exceptional organizational, interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Proven success with contributing to a positive workplace culture
  • Demonstrates understanding of the research objectives associated with the project.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Bachelor's degree in health science, social science, or biological sciences or an equivalent combination of related education and experience.
  • Detail oriented and ability to complete tasks with high levels of reliability
  • Medical assistant or certified nursing assistant certificate
  • An understanding of medical terminology
  • Experience in a large complex health care setting
  • Ability to effectively communicate with staff and faculty of all levels
  • Knowledge of university policies and procedures 
  • Experience working with postpartum families, babies and young children
  • Previous experience with EPIC and RedCap
  • Experience working with families with food allergies

Background Screening
