Job Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated, compassionate pharmacist to join our growing team as a Clinical Pharmacy Generalist in the University of Michigan Health Community Pharmacies! We have five community pharmacy locations, including the Taubman Ambulatory Care Pharmacy, Cancer Center Pharmacy, East Ann Arbor Pharmacy, Brighton Center for Specialty Care Pharmacy, and the Kellogg Eye Center Pharmacy. Our team is committed to providing exceptional patient care in an innovative, technology-driven, and patient-centered pharmacy care model across these five locations. This position will be based at our Taubman Ambulatory Care Pharmacy, with the opportunity to cross-train at additional pharmacy locations.

The Clinical Pharmacist Generalist, Community Pharmacy Services position plays a critical role in ensuring our patients are receiving the highest quality of care, and will have the opportunity to continue to shape the development of our pharmacy care model.

Responsibilities*

Clinical Pharmacist Generalist, Community Pharmacy Services job duties include:

  • Review, clarify, and process medication orders in a timely manner while assuring appropriateness of therapy.
  • Perform medication reconciliation on each set of prescription orders to facilitate a smooth transition of care to the outpatient community setting.
  • Provide patient counseling, Medication Therapy Management (MTM) services, and administer immunizations.
  • Provide functional supervision of technical staff working in their area including completion of job assignments and assuring adherence to institutional policies and procedures.
  • Serve as preceptors for University of Michigan Pharm.D. students on a variety of rotations including medication reconciliation, direct patient care Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEs) during the second and third year, and institutional unit-based hospital practice Advanced Pharmacy Practice Experiences (APPE) during the fourth year.  In addition, pharmacists will assist with precepting pharmacy residents, including the PGY-1 Community Pharmacy Resident, as well as the PGY-2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residents.  
  • Collaborate with nursing, social work, providers, pharmacists, and others to optimize patient care.
  • Assist with problem solving and process improvements within the pharmacy.
  • Other duties and projects as assigned by supervisor to facilitate safe and efficient patient care.

Required Qualifications*

Education/ Training:

Doctor of Pharmacy Degree (Pharm.D.)  from an accredited College of Pharmacy or BSPharm with commensurate experience.

License:

Current license to practice pharmacy in the State of Michigan (including a Controlled Substance license), verifiable through the State of Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs, or eligibility to become licensed within 90 days of employment start date.

Other:

Ability to perform a variety of manual dexterity movements, including keyboarding and non-sterile and sterile product preparation. Fluency in reading, writing and speaking English. The job involves considerable standing and walking, as well as extensive work on a computer, along with fatiguing physical motions.

Desired Qualifications*

  • Completion of a PGY1 residency and/or BCPS certification
  • Prior retail or community experience is desired, along with prescription insurance knowledge and familiarity with processing
  • MTM and immunization experience is desired
  • Doctor of Pharmacy degree is preferred

Work Schedule

The schedule for this position is day shift Monday through Friday, with a weekend rotation.

Union Affiliation

This position is included in the bargaining unit represented by the United Michigan Medicine Allied Professionals (UMMAP), which represents bargaining unit members in all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours, and other terms and conditions of employment.

Background Screening

Michigan Medicine conducts background screening and pre-employment drug testing on job candidates upon acceptance of a contingent job offer and may use a third party administrator to conduct background screenings.  Background screenings are performed in compliance with the Fair Credit Report Act. Pre-employment drug testing applies to all selected candidates, including new or additional faculty and staff appointments, as well as transfers from other U-M campuses.
